Could use some advice regarding speaker impedance
« on: October 27, 2012, 01:45:38 PM »
Basically, I have this old 5.1 system that I've decided to put to use in my bedroom. Only problem is I want to swap out the front L/R/Center speakers for wall mountable ones. I've found some that will do the trick however they are 3ohm and my current speakers are 4ohm. Also the current L/R speakers have an input power of 70W and the centre is 65W. The ones I'm planning to get are rated at a higher wattage.

Will this be ok, or do I risk damaging something?

Your receiver will output more wattage at 3 Ohms than at 4 Ohms, so best case scenario your speakers will output at different volumes, hard to tell if there is any damage risk without knowing your receiver's output wattage.

Find the specs on your receiver to see the different wattage output for each ohm rating.
