Because musical criticism hadn't devolved to its current, name the sub-sub-genre low water mark yet?
The bones of beasts and the bones of kings become dust in the wake of the hymn.
Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall, no more than a breath on the wind.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this came out before the Post Rock genre became a genre.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

Because Phycadelic rock is already a thing. It also doesn't really have any traditional rock instruments in it. The only thing I hear that would make it similar is that it doesn't have much of a song structure.

Me: "How?"

I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

There's no rock instruments at all (which is the biggest thing), the music is clearly eastern inspired (something you virtually never hear in post rock), and there's a pretty heavy emphasis of the vocals. Post rock always contains (sometimes exclusively so) the traditional guitar/bass/drums rock band setup, but focuses on heavily instrumental music with song structures that are more geared towards building the texture and dynamics of a single musical theme rather than a normal verse/chorus structure.

It wouldn't even matter if it fit perfectly into the style of music which is post rock.  Post rock represents a collective development into musical styles that started int he 90's, anything from the 80's or earlier simply isn't post rock.

Just because there wasn't the same name back then that we use now doesn't mean the title couldn't still be applied.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that notion, and there's probably no point in getting into this conversation.

Sigz gave a very good answer, but I'm not sure anything other than this one is required.

I wouldn't call post-rock a sub-sub-genre but okay.

You don't see the irony in this statement?
