Here's a longer video clip of it, instead of a choppy gif.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEIn8GJIg0E

Damn, in this longer video there's a couple that walks right through the middle of the intersection  :lol

If it's anything like traffic in India, what you don't see in that video is the aftermath of horrible accidents that were all fatal.

I was in Manila last month and every intersection looked like that except there WERE traffic lights, they were just ignored.  You drive with one hand on the wheel, one on the horn.  Oddly, I didn't see a scratch on any car as I sat in the back and prayed.

I want to know where the fire came from.

Looks like the asshole on the bike is speeding away. Hope they threw his ass in jail.

Looks like the 405 to me.

Why is someone filming the road in front of them as they drive?

Dashcam. Pretty common nowadays. He might be a professional driver, or plenty of aftermarket car stereos are simply Android boxes now with AV inputs for forward and rear video.

For mindless Youtube entertainment there's not a whole lot better than Russian dashcam videos, where damn near everybody films the goings on around them.

I know it's a dashcam, but... why? I guess I would never think to ever want to film the road in front of me. What am I trying to document or save for later viewing?

*Off to youtube to check out these entertaining Russian videos....

You leave it running at all times on a 60 second buffer, just for situations like this. You're basically TIVOing your driving. Maybe an accident, a plane crash, or a UFO landing happens in front of you. If you're a professional driver it's also for liability purposes. In other countries, and perhaps here now, people get a discount on their insurance for logging their driving. I believe that's the case in Russia which is why these videos are so abundant.

I remember seeing an article on this a few months back - it was in Phoenix, and the biker didn't stick around at the scene.  Dunno if they ever caught up with the douche on the bike.  They were both douche's actually.  And it wasn't a dashcam... you can tell by the movement of the video.  If it was a dashcam, it would be still against the car it's mounted in.

There's almost no way they don't catch the guy. Way too many witnesses, plus video.

You're right about the video, though. Surprised I didn't catch that before. Looks like a passenger filming it, which suggests a protracted road-rage incident. My first assumption, and the story I'm sticking with if I'm the gray car, was that he got spooked when some asshole on a bike pulled up and kicked his car. Swerving into him was merely a panicked reaction. If this were an ongoing situation then they were both douches.

iirc, this video was indeed the tail-end of the incident.  Full on road rage between the two.

I stand corrected ... California it was.  https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-road-rage-motorcycle-crash-20170622-story.html  I must've seen it from an AZ affiliated media outlet initially.

Right, so insurance companies can monitor your driving habits, and everything you do and everywhere you go is conveniently logged should the government ever wish to subpoena the recording data.

It was the 14, in Santa Clarita, June 2017.  The guy on the bike was identified and arrested in February 2018 and charged with three felonies.  If you google "motorcyclist kicks car" or something like that, you can get all the details.

Why is someone filming the road in front of them as they drive?

It was a passenger.  There was apparently more to it before the guy started filming.

Yep. I didn't say it was a good idea, or that I'd do it. Only that it happens a lot and it's easy to do.

To be honest, though, the government won't have any trouble piecing together your driving history nowadays, not to mention your cell. You're certainly making it easier for them, but not really providing them with anything they can't ascertain anyway. Moreover, there's no reason why you couldn't encrypt everything since it's android. I looked into getting an android box for my car, they do a ton of nifty shit, and I would have just left it isolated from cell networks and encrypted its data.

In what bizarre world is it legal to ride your bike on the damn freeway?

There is just no reason to go to that kind of effort for Coors freaking Light.

Lesson to learn here: 1) If you are the pitcher and the batter charges GET YOUR HANDS UP, 2) If you aren't going to get your hands up, make sure you have that 1st baseman on your team.
But the arc of your life will still be profound
