it was a commercial for Sky 1, the British TV station, in 2006. The actual Simpsons TV show used it as the intro in place of the regular animation in front of an episode later that year.

You could tell it was so thoroughly British.

This intro would have been better than their usual intros these days. They're so padded out. Have any of the couch gags from the past decade gone for under a minute? It's ridiculous.
