AiC never really did anything for me.

Though I am curious how/why you chose these two albums for comparison.

both of them has that angry 90's metal vibe, you know?
and I see both of them as important 90's over-the-top masterpieces
both were released at the same year, too.
and its so fucking close for me, but Angel Dust wins...

I love Faith No More, but Alice in Chains is one of my all-time favorite bands ever.  Dirt for this gal.

Angel Dust is a bit hit-or-miss for me, while Dirt is consistently good, IMO, so Dirt.

Just...shocking to me.

If this was vs. Facelift, I might have to scratch my head about it.   But for me, this is Angel Dust *hands down*...

I still don't understand why everyone goes bananas over Dirt.   Most of the people who had been following AiC since the club days...and had really held up Facelift as a masterpiece...were pretty disappointed upon the first listen of Dirt.

But then again, it's that way in other instances as well.    In the NW, Louder Than Love is held in much higher regard than Badmotorfinger.  (at least in my experience)

I guess it's just that Dirt was the first exposure for most people, and that probably has the biggest impact.   But for me, Dirt cannot touch Facelift...much less Angel Dust.

Angel Dust is not only an incredible album, and also FNM's masterpiece, but it's also one of the most important and innovative albums in rock...period.

Angel Dust.

I like Dirt better than Facelift because Dirt has virtually no glam leanings at all whereas songs like We Die Young, Sunshine, I Know Somethin' Bout You, Put You Down, and Real Thing all have varying amounts of parts that very much hint at that style. As a kid who grew up hating glam that grew into an adult whose opinion toward that style ranges from ejnoying it in small doses to flat-out being displeased with it at times, Facelift's glam leanings were a huge deterrent at first despite the fact that I liked it quite well within months of getting it for my sweet 16th birthday and now generally love it.

As for the poll, I went with Dirt.

Angel Dust is brilliant, so I went with that.
However, I do consider King For a Day to be the best FNM-album.

This is incredibly close for me, but I'd say Angel Dust is the better album by a hair. Dirt's best songs are quite a bit better than Angel Dust's, but its worst ones are quite a bit worse. Angel Dust is consistently very very good across the whole album.
