And the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees are...
« on: October 04, 2012, 05:43:21 AM »
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Chic
Deep Purple
Heart
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Albert King
Kraftwerk
The Marvelettes
The Meters
Randy Newman
N.W.A.
Procol Harum
Public Enemy
Rush
Donna Summer

This may be the first time in DTF history that we won't have a thread bitching about how stupid the Hall is   They're also letting fans participate.  There's a poll on their site that will be considered along with the votes of whoever normally picks the nominees.

Kraftwerk, rock n roll?

Out of those I'd say go go Rush.

They're still terribly flawed. Deep purple is likely nominated due to Jon Lords passing, and rush is probably oh nominated because of a successful album and tour. And even though they've added a fan vote, it counts for 1/6 of 1%, sure doesn't mean much. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to see these bands nominated, but I don't think the hall is redeemed yet

This changes nothing, and I'm frankly ashamed of Rush fans who make a big deal about this either way. Rush being in or not being in does not change the fact that the hall has no credibility and means absolutely nothing. I'd frankly be fine with Rush never being inducted, as frankly they don't need the acceptance there, and I don't want to have to pretend the hall somehow matters now, because it doesn't.

Oh I agree the hall doesn't really matter, but its still cool to see a bunch of these bands and artists, not just Rush, get a nod from them.  As for being ashamed of Rush fans, I don't see why the inevitable fan enthusiasm for their favorite band being recognized like this is something to be ashamed of.

Nick, your hipster avatar is really affecting you. I know this is not super important but I would put it in parallel with DT being nominated for a grammy. I love to see recognition for these bands outside the hardcore fanbase

My vote goes for Rush, Deep Purple, Heart, Albert King and Public Enemy.

We all know that the RaRHoF is not just Rock and Roll any more.  And, as far as rap (*cringe*) goes, if anyone is gonna get in, it should be PE.

Donna Summer should NEVER get in based on "MacArthur Park" alone!  That song is possibly the biggest PoS ever put on tape.  Disco is not Rock and Roll.  Never is!  Never will be!

Donna Summer inspired Steven Wilson to get into music thanks to Love to Love You Baby, so she gets a pass :). As far as rap acts go, the two they picked are definitely deserving.

Deep Purple isn't actually in there yet? And no KISS?

Yep, same old shit.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

I disagree.  I could care less if they are in but I am mad as a fan of the band and music that the hall has picked and choosed what style of music is acceptable.  That's my problem.

A R&R HOF without Ann Wilson is a joke. Greatest female rock singer ever. Heart's new album just released kicks ass, btw; they're STILL doing it. If smarter heads prevail, Heart, Rush, and DP will all be elected this year. Will be awesome.

I voted for Rush, but Deep Purple was a consideration as well. Without them, guitar stores would be a much less predictable place. (you know what I mean: dun, dun, duuunnnn, dun, dun, dun, duuuunnnn, dun, dun, dun, dun, duuuuunnnn. rinse and repeat)
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

as well as for their other popular recordings including "Crimson and Clover", "I Hate Myself for Loving You", "Do You Want to Touch Me", "Light of Day", "Love Is All Around", "Bad Reputation". She has three albums that have been certified Platinum or Gold, and she has been referred to as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll" many times during her career.[3]

OK I recognize 3 of those songs, and those suck too! :lol
But RnR Hall Of Fame worthy?? Maybe she is. I know she has a good reputation in the industry.

Voted Deep Purple and Donna Summer.  If Rush gets denied again, their fans can maintain a high level of mock indignance, allowing them to ignore the deeply-felt, but repressed uneasiness that the band is -- indeed -- massively overrated.

I've heard of 1 of those. In the UK she is a one hit wonder. Lita Ford probably sold more records (at a guess). I'm sure someone will prove me wrong. RnR HoF worthy? Not before KISS. Or Heart come to think of it. But like all these awards it's bollocks anyway so why worry?

its no longer the rock and roll hall of fame its the music hall of fame, when they started letting disco and rap bands in.........I honestly don't know why people get so upset its not like it holds a huge prestige in the public eye anyway

Yeah, I'm with Nick on this one.  I'd ask to be removed from consideration.

Public Enemy and Andy Newman are locks.  I'd bet on Kraftwerk as well.  The fact that I don't even know who Paul Butterfield is and he doesn't appear to have any sort of HOF standing,  leads me to believe that he's one of Jann Wenner's picks, so he'll get in as well.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.
