Spoilers for the latest episode ahead.

Ok, I thought that the way the Governor was established as a batshit crazy character was pretty stupid. You run into a squad of trained military men and instead of using them for the benefit of your comminity you fucking KILL THEM?!

The last type of people you'd want to join that community would be trained military. What they have works, and military personel would compromise that greatly.

I think that the governor cares about the preservation of the human race more than anything. Even if it means being evil at times. He has a good thing going. Sure, it might be part ego trip, but hundreds of people are alive and well because of him. He probably feels very well accomplished in his success, which he rightfully should. When the world is in the state it currently is, there needs to be strict control and regulation. The governor seems to have a good grasp on this already. He seems welcoming to anyone that will comply with the rules and contribute to the community which he controls. He lets anyone stay who he thinks will help be able rebuild humanity when the time comes. However, until then, he can't bring along anyone that could possibly compromise his operation. If he brought in military, they'd put their enforcing of the laws above the ones he has established within the town. The military personnel are a threat to the order that has been put in place.

My friends and I had a huge fight about this while watching last night. I was the only one who thought killing the military guys was a good move. Maybe I'm wrong.

Still not sure if I agree, but I can definitly see your point. Having said that, if that is indeed the case I feel the Governors motivation should've been shown more clearly.

This is more or less my opinion on that scene with the army guys:

Quote
Shooting and killing those soldiers and taking their supplies (aided by his inner circle, New Merle included) and then lying to his people about what really happened, we saw that this is a man determined to have complete dominance and control and willing to go to any length to do so. He wanted those weapons and supplies, but he didn’t want any possibility of these soldiers not following his orders, so he took them out, without hesitation.

Also take note when Andrea noted that his "nickname that stuck" is a title, almost inferring he likes the name, what it portrays and the power that comes with it.
Joe and I in the same squad is basically the virtual equivalent of us plowing a rape van through an elementary school playground at recess.

Do you guys think the Helicopter pilot was dead or alive when The Governor took his head?

I kind of assumed that he succumbed to his injuries, but I don't know.

Phoenix: I'm betting he was alive, he didn't seem to have sustained critical injuries, that's why it was so ominous-like as he was 'watching his TVs'. I mean of course it'd be creepy to have a room full of Zombie-TVs anyway, but the fact that this very specific one atop all the others, alone, seems to point to something even more sinister than that...that he is interested in them more than saving his own kind; perhaps even something more than just 'interest' as well (and no this was not a necrophiliac joke, but if you want it to be...I'll do it for you. Just for you)...but we shall see. That was an awesome episode, I love the Gov's intro and I'm really intrigued by how they're going to play this character out.

To those that think they've seen anything at all from this psychopathic ruler...he's not just ruling and biding his time to restore human life...he's insane, but more than that, he's intelligent, methodical and he definitely has an end-game in mind. So one can assume he didn't just kill those army guys for the very shallow assumption that they might not follow his orders; there is a method to his madness. But I suppose that's a reason, I just think that if it were to be revealed that he did kill them as a 'powertrip', it'd destroy a part of his character. It's just a pathetic reason. But I'm not going to guess at what he has in mind. Even the ones that have read the comics like myself can't say what will happen as this is a very different character than in the comics (but Rise of The Governor was kickass and this rendition is more based on that take), though of course there will be many similarities in his actions and personality.

I'm ready for this season to kick into action! Intros have been made, the story is gearing up and it's time. IT'S TIIIIIME.

I'd be OK with that as long as he jumped out of the bushes to scare Carol after which a zombie bites his face off.

SPOILER!!!

I am completely torn apart right now. I stared at the tv for the last ten minutes of the episode with my jaw open. T getting bit ruined my night as it was... I felt better when he gave himself up to save Carol, but seeing his throat ripped up and open hurt me a lot. Then Rick and the guys stumbling across his corpse made it that much worse. Lori's death scene had me ready to tear. From this day forth, I will never crack another Carl joke. The flashback to his dad's speech/handing him the gun really hit me hard. Rick at the end was executed perfectly. He knew right away when he looked at Carl what went down. I don't know what else to say. I'm depressed as all hell. That may very well be the best episode of any tv show I've ever seen.

I was not prepared for this episode. I couldn't believe it when T-Dog got bit. I screamed no and was on my knees the moment it happened. I was nearly in tears when Rick was realizing what was happening in the last minute of that episode. Andrew Lincoln deserves some sort of acting award. That was heartwrenching to watch.

And bravo to the writer that in 4 episodes have made a better season than last year!

Also, DID ANYONE EVER LEARN T-DAWG'S REAL NAME?!?!?!

Amazing episode.  Easily the best of the series, aside from the pilot.  If it stays this good, TWD will finally be up there with the best of them.
