ADTOE Skip Tracks
« on: September 19, 2012, 12:23:07 PM »
This is pretty simple.  Just trying to find out if most other people are skipping the same tracks I do.  Feel free to post your selections or not.  Feel free to discuss or not.  I'll post mine and explain.  Go...

7. Far from Heaven
9. Beneath the Surface

To be fair, I'm not saying these are bad songs.  The music is beautiful and I can somewhat relate to the lyrics, but they are just too depressing for me and I'm almost never in the mood to listen to them.  I also think they are on a different plane than the rest of the album and somewhat anti-climactic.  Especially, the final track.  Not quite sure why they chose to end the album on a such a downer.  Oh well, it is what it is...and that's what I think.

EDIT:  Added a "None" option suggested by Bosk1.

I think you should include a "none" option so you can compare the numbers to how many people don't skep any tracks.  I know I fall into the "none" category myself.  I may occasionally skip FFH and TITL if I'm just not in a ballad mood, but that's so rare that I don't even think it's accurate to count them as "skip tracks."

This is the Life is really the only song I skip regularly. Good song on an album filled with great ones so it gets lost. Also the vocal melodies are just... weird. And if I am in a ADToE mood, I usually like to go straight from LNF to BitS.

This exactly.  I also will skip 4. This Is the Life for the same reason.

None, since ADTOE is an album I always listen to from front to back every time I play it.

Well, I see what you mean but it takes all kinds I guess.  I'm a little surprised myself but so far BAI has the least amount of votes and that makes me happy.  I've always felt it was the best track on the album if not the best DT track ever.

It's an interesting track for me to categorize.  It has parts that are genuinely incredible and up there with some of the best they have written.  But I don't like the chorus and feel it is substandard.  And while one of DT's trademarks is upbrupt transitions between comletely different types of music, the abrupt transitions from awesome to chorus are very jarring and unpleasant.  Plus, I can't stand the lyrics.  So it's a song of high peaks and low valleys for me, which makes for a listening experience I'm not all that crazy about.

I am also not very fond of the chorus, but may I ask what about the lyrics you don't like? I mean (if I recall correctly) you even like the lyrics to TCOT and BAI's lyrics seem pretty harmless and benign. Just curious what you don't like about them.

I have DT songs that I usually skip when they come up on random shuffle, but Far From Heaven and Beneath the Surface are the first 2 DT songs that I had to will myself to complete the first listen (just to say I listened to them once and gave them a fair shot).  Wierd, since the rest of the album is sooo great.

OTBOA, BMUBMD, and FFH are all pretty much skip tracks for me.  LNF used to be one as well, but it grew on me.  Had trouble getting over the similarities to UAGM, glad I was able to  ;D

I listen to some songs more than others, of course, but if I'm actually putting the album in and listening to it start to finish, I'm not skipping anything.

None. I don't really listen to ADTOE album-wise anymore, so there's never any occasion for me to skip tracks.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges
