DT Fans Who Dislike Metal/DT As An Introduction to Metal

Before I got into DT I only listened to Metal, but through DT I got into lots of other musical genres. I still listen to a lot of Metal, but the majority of what I listen to are other genres that aren't Metal.

I listened to Rush exclusively for about a year before I got into DT. DT was my introduction to metal, which is most of what I listen to now. But, even as I was listening to DT, I pretty much despised everything about metal. The growls and the screams most of all. Now, I love growling and screaming and all types of harsh vocals and music. I guess Dream Theater's more metal oriented work such as ToT and SC helped me transition to heavier and heavier music.
