When Metal Evolution was first aired, Banger Films wanted to do an Extreme Metal episode, but the VH1 denied it because they thought it would get bad ratings.

They started an Indiegogo campaign to raise money to produce the episode. Link here: https://www.indiegogo.com/ExtremeMetal

I want to see this. Badly.

I KNEW someone prevented them from doing it. It was so weird, the way extreme metal was left out.

And they thought a Progressive Metal episode would get good ratings?

Well I think the main issue with an Extreme Metal episode would be the graphicness of it. Most extreme metal lyrics/concerts/bands are very graphic and extreme (how about that?) to the point that it would be rejected by the general public, VH1, and TV stations in general.

But they did Black Metal and discussed the church burnings, murders, crimes, and lyrics associated with the scene and some of the people involved. I think extreme metal would have been far more suitable for VH1

How much money do you need to interview a few people and film a picture of a family tree composed of band logos, scrolling down it real fast?

I kid, I kid. I usually only watched these in passing and that was generally all I caught.

If you watch them in full, they're pretty great. They leave a couple bands out of some episodes that I think they should have included, but you can't do everything.

Sam Dunn is pretty much the man. Headbanger's Journey is a fantastic movie, and Metal Evolution takes it to a whole new level.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I haven't seen Metal Evolution but my favorite thing that he's done has actually been Global Metal.

Really? I never checked that one out, but it looked interesting at least. Maybe it's time.

It's less about the music and more about metal's significance to different cultures around the world.

Global Metal is the best Sam Dunn movie to this point.  I reviewed it, but the post was largely ignored:  https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=8946.0

I am somewhat concerned that the money gets collected whether or not the goal is met.  If the goal is met, pledged money should be collected, but if the goal isn't met, people should have the option to withdraw their money.
