If it makes you feel any better, me and my two friends have been owed cake since last Christmas for learning this song and performing it in sixth form...with the voices.

I totally forgot that I was going to follow up with a related story that actually has a happy ending, so here it is now.

I did a request for this girl named Ann who used to work in our department but now works over on the business side and is a client.  She's cute, and yes all of my stories involve cute girls because what the hell kind of story doesn't have any cute girls in it?

This was shortly after she'd gone over to the dark side and had taken over for someone who is not cute and was fired.  The data request was simple, but then they had to load the data and coordinate some other stuff, and she had no idea how to do any of it.  I'd been through the process a few times with the person she'd replaced, so I was able to help her through it.  The data load went smoothly, she was very grateful, and she said she owed me a big hug.  I told her that I was going to hold her to it (heh heh).

It must've been three months later, at an off-site training thing for the entire division, I was grabbing a drink and heard a voice say "Hi Bob!"  I turned around and there she was, smiling and generally looking cute as hell.  I went for the hug.  It was pretty great.


So there you go, no cookies, but a great hug.  And really, if those are the choices, I'll take hugs over cookies any time.

Cool story, bro.

He's my own story about being let-down:

I was moping around one birthday because I thought everyone forgot about me. As the day drew on, my mood became worse and worse-- and then a friend called me to see if I wanted to join her and some others for dinner out. So I thought, "yes! someone did remember" and agreed to go.

So we got there, and ate and had drinks, and were having a pretty good time talking when finally the waiter came out with the check. In a polite gesture, I reached back to get my wallet and began to ante up the $20 (or whatever) to cover my meal. The whole time, I was waiting for someone to say, "no, man! It's your birthday!".

But it didn't happen. My friends HAD forgotten my birthday, and it was just by chance that someone had decided we should go out to eat.

Honestly, in the end it wasn't about the $20. I'm pretty poor, but I can certainly cover my own expenses. But my friends and I always treat each other to dinner on our birthdays.  And, at that time, I felt like they'd forgotten me.
