That Evening With question made my day. I've been waiting to hear those words from MP so all you people can stop calling me crazy for expecting them to return to Evening Withs.

And that brings the possibility of them playing the 12 Step Suite in an Evening With show. :)

PlaysLikeMyung

I hope they do that for the next NA leg. 3 hours of DT = massive win. And there's a good chance I'd see some of the songs I've been dying to see live

GuineaPig

If they do another NA leg, what song do you figure they'll open the shows with?  I'm hoping for either New Millenium, or Overture 1928/Strange Deja-vu.

Nick

If they were planning to shoot a DVD I'd say open with The Glass Prison and run straight through the 12 step sage.

Since they won't they probably won't play the saga this time around, so I'll say open with These Walls. Keep Petrucci behind the curtain again as he plays around with the intro and tunes the guitar, then he can start the riff as the curtain starts to come down. Once the curtain hits the floor it will be time for the entire band to kick in.

That is a fantastic idea.  I think it would sound great coming out of the Psycho intro.

Good idea, yet that would mean leaving off The Mirror, which many people consider a prelude.

I'm up for ACoS opener, myself.

I think a good idea would be to close the first set with the mirror, then open the 2nd with the glass prison in an evening with show.

ariich

Except The Mirror has nothing to do with the 12 step saga.

Well, ok it's about a related subject matter, but it has nothing to do with the 12-steps, or with the saga itself. Some fans maybe consider it a prelude, and that's up to them, but as far as I know the band doesn't.

Eh, it's dedicated to Bill W - obviously it's not a part of the suite but to say that it's lyrically unrelated would definitely be wrong. That's a strong connection, you don't often dedicate two songs to the same fictitious figurehead. I think it's fair to call the Twelve Step Suite a spiritual successor to it, and as it's several times bigger it's not unfair to consider The Mirror as a kind of prelude.

I reckon it's a strong enough thematic link for it to be justified. Although obviously it's definitely not a part of the suite, it's spiritually in the same vain.

SilentFox

Don't forget that The Mirror is quoted multiple times in This Dying Soul.

PlaysLikeMyung

I say they open with New Millennium or 6:00

I would orgasm. Seriously

We've gotta stop meeting like this :lol
This. While there are some very loose connections, the fact is that it is NOT part of the 12 step suite. IF they decide to play it, they can do it somewhere else in the set. Metropolis pt 1 was played after playing SFAM, and not before, and that has a lot more connection than The Mirror does to the 12 step suite.

I haven't read any official word that The Mirror is connected to the 12 step suite in any major way, and until then the opinions of a few fans doesn't hold any weight.

SilentFox

The 12SS is a story about a major part of MP's life.  Looking at the lyrics of The Mirror, many of the themes hold consistent.  I don't think The Mirror is part of the 12SS, nor do I think of it as a prelude persay, but it would be ignorant to say the two are unrelated.

Funny, I've always felt that that song was a terrible opener.

MykeHavoc

My dream is that the next tour is indeed the evening with format. First set is mixed and the second set should be The Mirror + 12 Steps.
To further the dream, I hope that they do a two night stint in Boston and the second night do one of the album covers, hopefully something new and hopefully something I like.

I think if we do see more US and Europe touring next year, they will be Evening With tours. It makes more financial sense and the band knows it would please the fans.

Over the course of the last two months, we've gone from people saying "There will definitely be a NA tour in spring with definitely 1-2 opening bands", to "There might be a tour, and it might be Evening With."  Not to mention speculation that there would be a DVD to definitely there won't be.  Seems like the economy (and other factors) are really shaking up DT's plans (and the fans' predictions).

How long do you think Pain of Salvation will get as support? 45 mins?

Good Looking setlist. Looking forward to Thursday's show even more now.

BlobVanDam

Nice setlist. About what I expected for NZ, with a mix of the live staples, and the stuff they've been playing more frequently this tour.

Yeah. I may be wrong but I think it was their first time playing the Civic Theater. That would explains TSCO, CM, PU/M and AIA being on that set.

Yeah PoS only playing in Oz.

Not sure but at first glance the setlist looks around the 2 hour mark. Can anyone confirm? Would be interesting to see what the turn out was like in NZ.

Spacebar.

lucky7

So New Zealand had no support act?
Does that mean the OZ shows will be even shorter?!
Not long now!  :)

Back from Auckland.
