Come on, dude.....young college kid living at home with parents working part time job making about, what, $15k year, generously speaking....so, you're going to lease a vehicle that is probably got a sticker price that is $10k more than what you make in a year. This is a car that's going to depreciate by about 15% to 20% the second you cross from the lot onto the street. But you think there's "very little risk" to you?
Like I wrote above, you've got yourself talked into it. It's cool, I was 23 once too you know, of course, we rode horses back then, but still
If I were in your shoes, I'd take about 75% of the money I got on the insurance settlement, buy a decent used car and then drive that until I got out of school and got a decent job where I could actually afford a $25,000 car.
Theoretically, your plan could work, sure. It assumes you'll never touch a dime of that money you put away for making the payments. It assumes you only exceed the mileage by 5000 miles per year, it assumes gas prices remain completely static over the next two or three years, it assumes you never get into any kind of accident, it assumes you never have to pay for any kind of maintenance, and well, just way too many assumptions in there.
Look, don't get me wrong. I know exactly what you're feeling right now. Been there. Done that. More than once. The temptation is captivating. So, I guess you just have to go do it. Experience it for yourself. Hey, it could work out the way you outlined it.
And I could....well....you know......
CALLING CLEOPATRA!!!!
Seriously, bro, I hope it works out for you. I really do.
I guess I just tend to be much more conservative when it comes to things like this. Like, you know, I would never purchase a $200,000 Lamborghini, but YOU buying this car right now, given your finances, is the same as ME making a purchase like that. It's reckless and irresponsible. And I think any competent financial adviser would tell you the same thing.
I'll shut my pie hole now and -sincerely- wish you the greatest success and enjoyment with whatever car you end up with.
