Primitive Overflow v. check out some great new prog!

I would like to promote a new album from by friend, Hoyt Binder. I met Hoyt back in 05 in the old Dream Theater chat room on DT.net. He went by Mixhoytian.

He is a great guy and has turned me on to much great music over the years including many of his own creations.
His latest album is called, "Primitive Overflow", Honer Way Down"

The music encompasses so many different styles and flavors. Its quite unique.

The album features...
Hoyt on lead guitar
Donnie Vie (Enuff Z' Nuff) on vocals
Chris Quirarte (Redeption) on drums
Paulo Gustavo on bass
Ronald Van Deurzen on keyboards

I'd like to hear more than a one minute snippet of each song.  Do they have one complete song on youtube or somewhere?

I can't find one yet, unfortunately. I have the CD but I don't know how to load songs onto youtube. If I can load a full song at some point I will. The album really is great, and he has some stellar musicians playing with him on it.

Errrr ...... no offense to the singer .... but is it wise to become a singer when you have a massive, MASSIVE lisp?

Why?

I am guessing because Prog Rock Records is run by Shawn Gordon, who, IIRC, comes off as a major douchnozzle.

Kevin:  :lol   Yeah, kind of that too, but I was thinking of something else to be honest  :lol




Musically, I like it, I don't know if the singer has a lisp or if it's overuse of a de-essing filter on the vocal tracks, hard to tell without loading this up on my studio monitors at decent volume.

I was wondering that too, whether they complete went bonkers on the de-essing. Either way, I can't listen to it without waiting for the next "s".

Okay, musically, it sounds pretty good, but the vocals are really weak.  I had to shut it off two minutes in because of how annoying they were.

Donnie Vie has made a pretty good living as a professional singer with, "Enuff-Z-Nuff"  Plenty of people have liked him and his music.
I personally think he has a great voice and did a great job on some very challenging material.

I think he has an excellent voice. As I said, he is a professional vocalist. I know plenty of people who don't like Dream Theater because of LaBrie.

I have never heard a lisp. I will listen close and see if I can hear what your hearing. Being a vocalist myself, I really do like his voice.

Also, I know we have fans of Redemtion on this board so I know some are familiar with, Chris Quirarte on drums. Certainly a solid player.

I wasn't able to listen to the Youtube from work. I just heard it now and it doesn't sound like the album. In any event, Donnie is a good singer and doesn't have a lisp.

I don't know that I hear a lisp, but I can also understand why many would find his voice to be unappealing. Musically, however, I like what I've heard.
