Sorry for disappearing, I had some pretty serious family issues to attend to and didn't really think about the forum or the roulette really. Sorry again but things seem to have gotten back to normal.


Round 4 Results!!:

Zantera - Sigur Rios - "Untitiled VII" - 7 points

- First Listen: Before listening this was already a band that I've been meaning to check out so I'm glad I get to hear it in the roulette. I don't know how I feel about the vocals, I don't dislike them, but I don't really like them either. I have to give it some more listens.

- Subsequent Listens: I dig the song but still undecided about the vocals, I'm interested to know if they have any instrumental tracks, but I'd be open to hear other songs with vocals. I really wanted to give this song a 6 but gave it a 7 simply because I liked the music so much.

Ultimetalhead - Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - "The Companions" - 8 points

- First Listen: Just a few minutes in so far and I'm enjoying the track. Really haunting, dark vocals, the dude definitely has some singing chops. The slow yet powerful buildup is great and I really enjoy the end of the song especially when the horn kicks in..

- Subsequent Listens: I like it the more familar I become with the song. While the song clocks in at 10 minutes it really feels shorter, I'm really curious to check out more stuff from these guys and see if the album sounds anything like this song then I suspect many listens for this band. You said you took a risk sending this song, well it paid off with 8 points

Elite - Swallow The Sun - "Under The Waves" - 7 points

- First Listen: I'm about a minute in, and the music is awesome, and I can't believe I'm saying this but the vocals are not bad!!!

- Subsequent Listens: Definitely like this band, I have to be in the mood to listen to them but when that mood comes over me I can see myself putting this on.

Xanthul - Triana - "Sombra Y Luz" - 4 points

- First Listen: Your email made me really interested in hearing this song. It did start upbeat but that just made me anticipate the rest of the song. It just gets weird, I don't even know how to describe it. Time for some more listens!

- Subsequent Listens: Just an all around weird song, I don't really see myself ever listening to this. I don't hate it but, I'm not really interested in it.

Kari - Mono - "Moonlight" - 9 points

- First Listen: One of my buddies roommates used to love Mono and always talk about them, glad to hear something from the in the rulette.  Digging the song, the guitar tone is wonderful.

- Subsequent Listens: Keeps getting better and better, great pick. 

Ravenheart - Depeche Mode - "The Darkest Star" - 6 points

- First Listen: Another band that I've heard a lot about but never heard anything by. I really like the use of electronic beats throughout the song, the vocals suite it nicely.

- Subsequent Listens: Good song, doesn't really keep my attention though.

Sigz - Converge- "Wretched World" - 8 points

- First Listen: Great song, vocals are awesome, the build up through out the song is kickass, I especially love the part where the distorted guitars kick in.

- Subsequent Listens: Really good song that keeps getting better with every listen.

Nekov - Neurosis - "Stones From The Sky" - 6 points

- First Listen: Alright song, kinda forgettable.

- Subsequent Listens: Gets better with more listens but not a stellar song. There are some good parts to it but it feels a bit repatative. I get tired of the song before it's over. 

Scorpion - Green Carnation - "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness" - 8 points

- First Listen: Well long song so it took a bit of time to find the time to listen to this song . So far I really like the track, the singer is good, the production is great. I love it when the strings kick in. The guitar tone is perfect fit for the music. The further I get along I really dig this song, it's a lot to take and I'll have to give it a few more spins but I think I'll only give it one more go before posting results. The guitar solo around the 42 minute mark is awesome.

- Subsequent Listen: Great song, I do wish it was broken up because I'll hear parts I'd love to listen to as an individual song but it's not that big of a deal. Another good score for you.

The album isn't very similar to that song, but it's a hell of an album in its own right, so get it anyway. It's called In Glorious Times if I didn't tell you in the e-mail. The other best songs are Helpless Corpses Enactment, Formicary, and Angle of Repose.

It really was a cool journey, the first time I put it on was while I was doing laundry and ironing and I kept stopping and thinking "Goddamn this kicks ass", it's just a long song but still good.

Ultimetalhead - Foxy Shazam - "Oh Lord" - 9 points

- First Listen: Love the horns, love the intro, love the vocals, all around I love this song.

- Subsequent Listens: This just gets stuck more and more in my head. A really good track, I can't wait to check out more this bands stuff.

Nekov - Anathema - "Untouchable, Part 1" - 8 points

- First Listen: Pretty excited to hear this band after reading so much about them on the forums. I love the acoustic intro, and I really dig the strings at the end of the song. Not sure how I feel about the vocals, singer doesn't really click with me.

- Subsequent Listens: Vocals are really growing on me, strong track that really has got me interested in further listening from the band.

Kari - M83 - "Kim & Jesse" - 8 points

- First Listen: First few seconds in and I already love the synths! I don't know why but first hearing this song I was immediately reminded of MGMT, but the more I listen the less I hear a resemblance.

- Subsequent Listens: Another really catchy tune. I think you described it perfectly in your email, it is a great blend of electropop and shoegaze. An 8 for you!

Zantera - Pure Reason Revolution - "Bullets Dominae" - 8 points

- First Listen: I like the groove of the song, the production quality is what really struck about this song my first listen. I love the female singer!

- Subsequent Listens: Really good song, don't know why but I didn't really catch the violin my first listen but it's a great addition. Another high scoring song!

Elite - Spock's Beard - "Thoughts (Part II)(V)" - 6 points

- First Listen: I think out of all the bands I've sen mentioned on the forums Spocks Beard is the one that I've seen the most but never checked out. On to the song, I like the acoustic intro, and I like the vocal harmonies. I'm not really digging the organ, not really my thing. Some crazy bass tone!

- Subsequent Listens: Good track but something just isn't clicking right away with me. I don't know what is putting me off from scoring it higher. This seems like a song I'd score higher after many many listens.

Ravenheart - Rozz Williams & Gitane Demone - "Flowers" - 7 points

- First Listen:  Good song, I'm always a sucker for songs that are just vocals and piano.

- Subsequent Listens: I really like this song, not something I'd listen to all the time but it is a good song so I award you 7 points!

Xanthul - Anathema- "Thin Air" - 9 points

- First Listen: Another Anathema song, got two songs this round. Only a few minutes in but I'm really getting into the song. The few complaints I had from Nekov's submission aren't really present in this song. The vocals are much better, or at least better mixed.

- Subsequent Listens: Really a great song, I can't wait to check out more material from this band!

Scorpion - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - "Gates To The Garden" - 7 points

- First Listen: Great track, very laid back, something I can sit and read a book too while having a bit of brandy. I'm really like the chorus, especially with the additional female vocals.

- Subsequent Listens: Still as good, definitely has a place in my library.
