Recommend me some...
« on: August 30, 2012, 12:25:14 PM »
...headphone music that is dream like, layered, mellow and atmospheric. Music that you can loose yourself in. I am imagining something purely instrumental but if it contains vocals on a few tracks, that is fine. Spacey electronic or slow psychedelic rock? That does not really matter as long as it is good. Maybe someone has some suggestions?  :)

Kemialliset Ystävät - Harmaa laguuni - described as psychedelic folk, although not sure about folk part.  Dream-like and dissonant.

Alcest - Sur L'Océan Couleur De Fer

Alcest's sound is very dream like. There are occasional screams which you would think detract from that kind of sound but really don't.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Marty Friedman- Scenes or Introduction do it for me when I'm in a mellow mood. Great headphone music. It's not shreddy.

Or Deuter's Nada Himalaya- Tibetan singing bowl music. Great for meditation and leaving the real world behind.

First question: How much do you know of post-rock? If very little:

This Will Destroy You
Sigur Ros
Hammock
Yndi Halda
sleepmakeswaves
Gregor Samsa

These bands have all made music that is deep, beautiful, and powerful. Lots of layers and dreamscapes at times.

If you're feeling depressed, listen to Low - I Could Live In Hope, I recommend the song "Lullaby," so tragic  :'(

For something more jazzy, listen to Laughing Stock by Talk Talk

We're Here Because We're Here by Anathema for something full-on beautiful and climactic

Ghost by Devin Townsend (as was mentioned)

And my personal favourite... 55:12 by Gregor Samsa!!!!

I second Laughing Stock by Talk Talk.
I would also like to name Godspeed You! Black Emperor, their music is really awesome in headphones. Instrumental, majestic.
