Underrated Instrumental Tracks.
« on: August 23, 2012, 08:25:37 PM »
I love these instrumental tracks, and I don't think they get enough love.  I'm not talking about obviously amazing instrumentals like YYZ, Stream of Consciousness, and La Villa Strangiato.  I'm talking about ones that are overshadowed by the other songs on the album.

Can't think of any more off the top of my head, post more.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Brazilian is one of my favorite Genesis songs. It creates a really cool atmosphere.

I've always really liked The Fish from Fragile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNP070z0Ubo

Genesis - Hairless Heart

This gem on The Lamb is often overshadowed by the more known tracks on the album. I love the main melody and the mood, too bad it's way too short.

Styx's The Message.  Granted, the theme is carried over somewhat into Lords of the Ring, but like Hairless Heart it's criminally short.

A few that comes to mind:

*Oceansize - An Old Friend of the Christy's - Heavy, Doom-ish, this is an epic tune.
*The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - While it is just the album-theme and the intro music, it's just pretty darn perfect. I love it, and it sets the mood for the whole album.
*Pain of Salvation - Dryad of the Woods - Just a beautiful instrumental.

Probably my favorite song on the album and it's a B-side.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

FIver per cent for nothing!

Speaking of the same album, I'll add Mood for a Day, but I suppose that's not really overlooked.

Haken - Portals
Symphony X - Oculus Ex Inferni
maudlin of the Well - Interlude 4
Agalloch - A Celebration for the Death of Man...
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

Except, that song gets more love than Where's My Thing, but the latter is a better more cohesive instrumental.

Probably my 3rd favorite Rush instrumental after La Villa and YYZ.  That one is great.  Wish it got more love.

Best name for an isntrumental:
IQ - My Baby Treats Me Right 'Cos I'm a Hard Lovin' Man All Night Long

And another great one:

Frost* - Hyperventalate

I actually went and listened to the entire album that's on because of that, but didn't get on with the rest of it. I love that one though.

I'm gonna mix things up a bit here and suggest an album that's completely different than what you guys are used to.

J-Dilla - Donuts

It's a hip hop instrumental album that has short beats that are used by splicing different samples that Dilla had. None of the songs progress further than loops and ideas, but there is a lot of depth and meaning to them, especially when you consider that he wrote the album on his deathbed.

Yeah, Journey of the Sorcerer is very different for Eagles.  I think they pretty much shot their entire career's worth of prog on that one tune.

:tup on the ones you've cited.
