What will happen with the full Rotterdam footage?
« on: August 29, 2012, 01:12:56 PM »
I always thought it would be a good idea for DT to release the full rotterdam show. Some songs are released in the five years in a livetime but it seems to be a memorable show. It would be so awesome for the fans. At first I was thinking the Ytse jam records would release it someday. Right now it seems to be unlikely. What you think?

It could be the same thing with the video version of once in a lifetime.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

The footage? If that happened, I am not aware of that, and I could not find any related information in the archieves.

I also wonder what they'll do with the video and audio from the 6-25-1998 show and the rose land ballroom show

No, sorry not the footage.  Since the CD has been released I'm not really that interested in seeing the whole show for that particular gig.  I would much prefer footage from the US '98 Home For Holidays shows (Hell's Kitchen live).

I have the footage for the whole show for the 98 Roseland show.  Having seen it, I doubt it will ever officially be released due to the quality.

I agree. Releasing something like Poughkeepsie 98 would be a huge blast for us hardcore fans. Just look at the setlist:

1.  Speak To Me
2.  Lifting Shadows Off A Dream (new intro)
3.  Hey You (Pink Floyd)
4.  The Silent Man (electric version)
5.  Where Are You Now?
6.  Different Strings (Rush) /
7.  Analog Kid (Rush) /
8.  La Villa Strangiato (Rush)
9.  keyboard solo
10.  Wait For Sleep
11.  Since I've Been Loving You (Led Zeppelin)
12.  Cover My Eyes
13.  Take Away My Pain
14.  Hell's Kitchen
15.  Run Like Hell (Pink Floyd) /
16.  The Way It Used To Be /
17.  Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who)
18.  Another Day
19.  Hollow Years
20.  Bad (U2)
~~~encore~~~
21.  Oh Holy Night (traditional)
22.  Paradigm Shift /
23.  Hot For Teacher (Van Halen) /
24.  Ice Cream Man (Van Halen) /
25.  Mean Streets (Van Halen) /
26.  Cygnus X-1 (Rush) /
27.  Rock N' Roll (Led Zeppelin)
28.  To Live Forever /
29.  Lines In The Sand (intro)
~~~encore~~~
30.  Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple)
31.  Peruvian Skies (w/ Enter Sandman teaser)

Together with the Rotterdam gig they are the mother and the father of all unhortodox Dream Theater shows. They need and deserve a better fate than to get dusty on the shelves.

P98 would indeed be awesome, but it would be a YJR type release, and so until MP and the band are on much better terms I don't see anything happening with it.

Oh man, that looks like a great show. I'd kill to hear that Rush medley.

Not the whole show.  Only these songs:

Eve
Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
The Silent Man
Cover My Eyes
Mean Street
To Live Forever
Bad

The other songs on the CD were outtakes from OiaLT:

Speak To Me
Hey You
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Anna Lee

I've got a bootleg of the Rotterdam show.  Lots of fun, but not the strongest performances in the world.

I still love it, and I would love to see the whole thing released as a DVD.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
