Everyone has already said this, but this is ridiculous. She earned her diploma, so she should receive it. End of story. Whoever made that decision to keep the diploma from her is an idiot. She shouldn't apologize, either. There's no reason for her to do that at all.

I would tell them to take the diploma and shove it up their ass.

Quote
A similar incident occurred in June when high school senior Anthony Cornist was denied his diploma because, school officials said, his friends and family cheered so loudly for him that it disrupted the ceremony.

"I did nothing wrong except walk across the stage," the Ohio teen told WCPO at the time.

The school demanded that the student complete 20 hours of community service to obtain the certificate.

While I applaud the gal's/her family's stance on this - the part I quoted is truly disturbing.  Denying someone a diploma because their family is proud of their graduate and being overly happy/enthusiastic is complete bullshit.

Do the diplomas no longer get handed out on stage?  That's how I got mine - no muss, no fuss.

Loud parents/families are kind of a problem when you think about the speed at which peoples names are announced. If they waited for everyone to quiet down graduations would probably last 10-12 hours. I'd say kid the family out before denying the kid their diploma, especially when there are several announcements not to cheer loudly beforehand like at my graduation.

Well, if it's a larger school with 300-400 people graduating, then I do see your point.  But then again, that should never depend upon the size of the graduating class either.

Not an easy answer for that one, I just thought it was BS that the kid was being denied his diploma because of that.

Just saw that on the local news; it happened about an hour from here. I swear, the US is 20 years behind the world as far as what's acceptable in society, and Oklahoma is another 20 years behind the US.
Listen! Do you smell something?

This thread amazes me on so many levels:

-  Yet another time individuals put themselves to shame with their laughable, utterly disproportionate and ultimately hypocrite display of moral restraint
- Hefmemes and Hefpics
- 5 unsigned rumborak posts
:slayer: Somewhere, over the wasteland..... bootlegs fly :slayer:
MoraWintersoul is the BEST person.

If nothing new comes in at work between now and when I go back Thursday, I may seriously make a point to call them every hour on the hour and bug them about this. Usually I don't give a flying fuck, but I don't know how people can not be annoyed by this shit.

This is ridiculous. If I was her I'd write a mock-apology that fits all the requirements of the apology. After recieving the diploma I would make a youtube video cussing out the school. That would show them. Somehow.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A.
