Top 5 Songs of 2012 (so far)
« on: August 17, 2012, 02:40:35 PM »
Instead of just doing a top albums list, I wanted to narrow it down a bit. What do you guys consider to be the best individual tracks released this year?

My list:

1. Honey Trap Aftermath - Diablo Swing Orchestra
2. Equale: 1.) Prelude 2.) Fugato 3.) Coda - Sigh
3. Forget Not - Ne Obliviscaris
4. The Paranoid - Ihsahn
5. No Friendly Neighbor - Primal Rock Rebellion

some that come close:
Carolous Rex - Sabaton
I Spit in the Stomach of Zombies - Self Spiller
Clash - Caravan Palace
Marrow - Meshuggah

Okay, go!
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Hard to get into listing too many without the same artists being repeated, but for my money, the two best so far this year:

Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion
Rush - Clockwork Angels

Untouchable pt. 1 - Anathema
Lightning Song - Anathema
Sunlight - Anathema
Infinite Fire - Flying Colors
Of monsters and men - Little Talks

yeah, I love Weather Systems

Edit: Modifying the last one as I didn't realize the OMAM album was released this year.

Well, I've only gotten three albums this year so far, so my picks are not going to be very diverse:

1.  Flying Colors - Infinite Fire
2.  Nightwish - Story Time
3.  Nightwish - Scaretale
4.  Flying Colors - Blue Ocean
5.  Flying Colors - The Storm

1. The Smashing Pumpkins - Pinwheels
2. Periphery - Ragnarok
3. Storm Corrosion - Ljudet Innan/Storm Corrosion (I honestly can't pick, I love both so much)
4. The Tallest Man on Earth - There's No Leaving Now
5. Anathema - Untouchable 1+2
6. Ancestors - On the Wind
7. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Mass Rapture

Coheed & Cambria-Sentry the Defiant
I was considering this, but I'm going to wait for the studio version to be released before I make final judgements. Same goes for Domino the Destitute.

Based on the acoustic version alone (and what I got to see live) it deserves a spot already.

March To The Sea - Baroness
5000 At The Funeral - Gorod
Blood & Honour - Sophicide
Parsonz Curse - Royal Thunder
Native Blood - Testament

Abstained from filling the list almost entirely with Baroness, took one song from 5 of my favorites that I can't stop listening to.

I don't think I've gotten a lot of new releases this year so far either, but I'll also go with the two new Coheed songs (Sentry especially) and Untouchable 1&2 from Weather Systems.  Thems some good musicing right there.

Affector - Harmagedon
Blessed By A Broken Heart - Shut Up and Rock
Flying Colors - Blue Ocean
Beyond the Bridge - Triumph of Irreality

It was painful to leave Hardling/Fever Dreams off that list.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Off the top of my head and in no order:

-The Garden - Rush
-Architect of Fortune- Circus Maximus
-The Wreckers- Rush
- I Am- Circus Maximus
- The Anarchist- Rush

(sorry, most of the records I've bought this year weren't from 2012, but "Clockwork Angels" and "Nine" are both worth checking out.)

P.S. My main reason for putting "The Anarchist" is because it is the first song I've ever tried to transcribe all the way through, so it has a weird sentimental value I suppose....
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

Mine would look like:

OSI - Guards
Dissona - Nest (or Eccentress, that album is just too good)
Enochian Theory - This Aching Isolation
Steelwing - Solar Wind Riders
Barren Earth - As It Is Written

And if you haven't heard any of these... they're pretty worth checking out, methinks. All on youtube.

Yeah man it's definitely an album you have to let sink in, because there are so many intricacies to every song.
