« on: August 11, 2012, 04:51:26 PM »
So Heretic and I are going to run this years DTF Awards! We want them to include for than just members this time. How about best thread? Best user smiley? Tell us your ideas!

This is what Heretic posts:

I'd definitely like input from the members on different categories this year, too, so we can have a bit more fun with the awards too.

Last year's categories:

Quote

-Best post of 2012
-Worst post of 2012

Everyone, feel free to suggest other things we could add to the categories.

Quote from: Original Post: Thread of the Year
I know we've had member tournaments and awards, but have we ever had thread awards? I think this'd be a cool idea. Maybe not as a yearly thing, because amazing threads are pretty rare. But there are some amazing ones in the archives that people could nominate or something.

For my money, the segment in the post-your-pic thread when an unknown member (I think it's still unknown) created a dummy account, and a photo of a male-model.  Those pages were gold.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I think that was last year already, though. For what it's worth, I'm with jingle on this - that was some seriously funny shit that went down in that thread.

Damn, just after I deleted all of the evidence pics from my Photobucket that I dug up too.

Every time I opened my Photobucket album, I saw a page of half naked man pictures, and it was making me feel uncomfortable.

Right, but since this might not be a recurring thing, why not just have a funniest thread of all time contest?

Why not do something along with the DTF Member awards where Best Thread, Best Post, etc. etc. are awarded as well? An all-expansive DTF Awards?

No, we need someone to run it well.

If nobody else steps up to do it, I could certainly run it. I ran two different forum award shows on large and active forums in the past, as well as many Secret Santa events and various holiday gift-giving activities.

If you could do the member awards too, I always end up going on hiatuses about when I'm meant to be totting up the results.

I assure you that this is purely coincidental.

I could probably do the member awards along with it too, sure, just as I said an all expansive DTF Awards this time that includes other categories and whatnot. 2012 is a good year to change things up, isn't it?

And Implode you're definitely not a new guy here at all, you're one of my favorite posters actually. We could perhaps do a co-hosting of these awards?

Sounds like a plan!  So I guess the first task on the agenda would be to figure out all the categories and awards.

Looking good so far, though I'd scrap the "Worst Post" category, because it's a) not very nice and b) I (and I assume that that applies to most other members, though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) don't necessarily remember the bad, only the good.

Given some thought - yeah, that would be a bit difficult.  Especially with how fast GD alone moves.

The thing is, though - the best post is probably one that stays in the memory of people. So, if a post has to be searched for, then chances are that it shouldn't win the thing anyway.

Posts that are sigged are usually ones that people remember, along with others.

And yeah, scrapping the worst post one might be a good idea, but the worst thread idea isn't that bad I'd say-- it's more of a joking thing, saying "wow, this thread :lol"

Looks good to me, including:

:rollin

Also, Implode, perhaps you should change the name of the thread to DTF Awards 2012 - Suggestions or something? This might even do better in GD where more people would offer their input.
