The drumming really added some life to the album. I hope he stays with the project and they can keep building on the sparks from this album, even if I didn't care for it that much as a whole. I really like some of their older albums a lot, and it's a shame that the last 3 albums have been underwhelming for me. Not terrible or anything, but in that 6/10 region where it's an OK listen but you won't reach for the album.

+1

Pretty strong album but Gavin's playing takes it to a different level.

I've been on a huge Pineapple Thief musical binge lately, Fend For Yourself is brilliant, the clarinet solo by John Helliwell of Supertramp is great

biggest discovery for me of 2016, I purchased Mangolia, Tightly Unwound, All The Wars, What We Have Sown on CD

I hope they do tour North America in 2017, a must see band for me

I picked up Your Wilderness recently (my first Thief album) and it's taking a little while to get into. It just doesn't really have a lot of oomph to it. It certainly sounds very Kscope-ish.

I liked it better than Magnolia but we're still talking maybe the 2 weakest albums the band has released. So not that surprising about the oomph missing.

So I just heard "Tear You Up" for the first time and I dug it (it was a Gavin Harrison playthrough video).  What TPT album would DTF recommend?

I don't know if he's a full time member of the band, but he played on "Your Wilderness" and is on tour with them.

I hadn't even listened to anything by the band until today  :lol

It is amazing.  The meaning behind the lyrics is achingly heartbreaking and for him to write about it is something I'm not sure I could do.

What is the meaning behind those lyrics? Can't find anything about them.

So I've heard a few songs by these guys that I kinda liked. They haven't really blown me away but I noticed they are playing nearby in September. I'm thinking about going to see them but not really sure where to start with them. Are they similar to any other bands (Just as a point of reference), or not at all really?

Start with Tightly Unwound.

Cheers King, I'm just listening to a random mix on Spotify as I type (Tear You Up is pretty great). Some really beautiful sounds, I'll try and get to that album in the next few days.

I heard this band for the first time this week, thanks to a friend who is just now getting into them. Sounded good to me.  Guess I will have to take the plunge and get some of their albums. :coolio

From the band's FB page. Just a few months after I got into them, too. Nice!

Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

I really tried to like this band by listening to quite a bit of their stuff, but while they do have some songs I like a lot, the vast majority is a miss for me.  Too much of it just bores me, and their sound kind of bugs me (lack of both warm tones and a memorable melody way too much).

Kev that is exactly how I would describe my experience with TPT. I'll give the new album a spin though.

I haven't liked a TPT album since Someone Here is Missing (even that album I would say is a drop from Tightly Unwound) but I'll still check out a new album. The last 3 albums have been alright but didn't stick with me unfortunately. I still revisit Variations on a Dream, 137, Little Man and What We Have Sown fairly frequently.

They do have some songs I like a lot.  Snow Drops, 3000 Days and The Final Thing on My Mind, most notably. They need more songs as good as those.

Unfortunately that didn't make the music much more interesting. I kinda hope they return to their more progressive songwriting of the earlier albums - and that combined with Gavin drumming might be really nice.

They certainly fit in perfectly with Kscope's general soundworld though. In fact, I use the term "Kscopish" to describe that particular soundworld of bands signed to that label.

I just had a listen through Your Wilderness and I was really surprised, the album is good! The last album I listened to was Tightly Unwound so it's been a while.

Fend for yourself is probably my favorite song from them.
