I'll easily take the 50% at 100 million.

1 million. Much less hastle, and besides, I don't know what I'd end up doing with the 99 left.

50%. 100m could change my life forever, whereas 1m would change it for a much shorter period of time.

When we had that 700 million lottery recently in the states, I found PLENTY of ways (in my mind)
 to spend 100 million.... :lol

Exactly....  1 million would give me a little more security than I already have, but 100 million would would leave me set for life.  From another perspective, with 1 mil, I wouldn't quite be able to retire (to match the desired comfort level) , with 100 mil I would.

True, I'd find ways to over time, but at this stage, if someone handed me 1m or said I had half chance of 100m, going for that 1m would mean I could buy a house (thus not having to worry about rent) and then would still have enough for bills and food while I searched for an income that wasn't mooching in a supermarket.

Edit: that and each new bass takes some getting used to, so too many at once would take some time, and I might not play all of them in the end.

1 mil in a heartbeat.  I don't need to be filthy stinking rich, but if I could buy a house somewhere nice and a cool car, I'd be a very happy camper.  At that point, any menial job would suffice for my fairly modest desires.

My bank balance is in the red. I'm managing it well, and in no danger, but I need that million. Either figure's more money than I've ever dared imagine spending, I'm not going to risk it for an extra $99,000,000.

This is like that game with those boxes... Deal or No Deal, but the win being 100 mil and the bank offering only one mil. The bank would offer something near 45 mil or something in such a case normally.

I'd take the mil though.

I'll take the million. 50% is a really good chance, but there's still an equal chance I won't get it, and I'm not looking to be filthy rich.

Even though 1 million isn't as life changing as 100 million, it would still make a huge difference and allow me to do so many things that I'd like to do.

Mathematically speaking, the 50% option is better because its expected value is 50 million, which is better than 1 million.  That said, there's something to be said for certainty. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I suspect what we'll see is that the people who are already financially comfortable don't care about the quick mil.  Those of us who still worry about rent/mortgage just want to join the comfortable ranks, and would go for the sure million.

I'm young enough that $1m would permanently improve my life, I think. I could pay off all my debts, buy a house, buy a car, and go back to school, and then just get a decent job and I'd be great! Not like I need to pay for a mortgage or my car payments since I would buy them outright anyways.

My way of thinking is like this....  I have a 401K and a pension that between the 2 are about 1.5 mil.  So, yes 1 mil would still give me much added security, but not so much that I wouldn't roll the dice for the big payday.  If I didn't have the 401k and pension, I'd take the 1 mil :)  I can afford to take the risk seeing the payoff would be helping myself, and my family.

Obviously a hundred million would be preferable, but I'd easily take the guaranteed 1 million. Pay off all my student loans, help out my parents, and have a massive savings account (that would actually be pulling in a substantial amount of money through interest) right out of college. God that would be awesome.

Bottom line for me is that if I took the risk and ended up with nothing, I would regret it for the rest of my life.

Easily the $1 million, it would go too far towards securing a solid financial future and relieving the stress involved in that.  Were I already fairly well secured the better expectation would be the easy choice.

Mathematically I should be choosing the $100M, but I think at this point in my life, it'd be better to just take the $1M and run.

Instant million I think.

The odds for the 100m are great, but there's still a 50% chance I'd get absolutely zero. Whereas a million would allow me to buy a decent house outright, and all sorts of other stuff, so that all of my income from then on would basically be disposable income.

50%, 1 million isnt a ton of money anymore. 1 million means you still need to work for a living (unless you are old).  100 million means I can do whatever I want.
