The correct order of operations is actually:

1. Paste the equation into Wolfram Alpha, Matlab or compiled/interpreted language of your choice
2. Write down the answer it gives you.

This correctly yields the answer 15.

the 0 multiplies with the last five before the addition...

Yeah, but if you saw the multiplication sign, you should have seen a lack of parentheses. There is no way to glance at that equation and assume the entire equation is to be multiplied by zero.

I don't think people who voted 0 were thinking of order of operations. It's just a matter of 'Anything multiplied by zero is zero' flashing in one's brain. I'd say the equation is meant to trick people more than anything else.

Yeah, this problem doesn't have anything to do with that one. That one was vaguely written, but people are getting this one wrong because they're bad at math.

Actually I got it wrong because I didn't notice the zero at the end.

Clearly the answer is 15, but I managed to hit 20 before I realised. :faceplam:

It makes perfect sense. "Anything times 0 is 0" is much easier concept to remember and understand than "PEMDAS".

But I didn't see the question and think "Here's an interesting equation, let's expand the brackets and see what comes out." I saw a string of banal equations multiplied by zero and went "Welcome to zerosville muthafuckas."
