The Hammond Organ Thread
« on: July 17, 2012, 04:47:46 PM »
We are in the process of fixing up my grandfather's Hammond BV.  Still needs some fixin', but it's perfectly functional for most purposes.  Someday we will get a hold of a Leslie speaker and a module that converts the organ into a B3.

ITT we appreciate the sound of a great Hammond!!!

Keep your synthesizers, your mellotrons, your fancy patches and programmable whatevers. Gimme a classic Hammond organ any day of the week. And twice on Sundays.

Is the lowest octave for playing black metal?

We have an old Hammond organ in our rehearsal room. We've been incorporating it more and more into our recordings lately. None of us are any good at playing it though, just adding some basic chords to add some color to our sound. We're thinking of adding a permanent organist though.

When it comes to the hammond organ, it's all about Keith Emerson:

Back in the 80's, we were shopping for a keyboard for me to play in the band, and this one place had a used Hammond L-100, the baby brother of the B-series.  It had drawbars, though not a full set, a single keyboard, and it sounded like a Hammond.  The problem was, we were shopping for a piano or synth, and the L-100 just seemed too limited.  We didn't have a lot of cash, and they wanted $400 for it.  We ended up spending $350 for a crappy Yamaha piano with a bad string sound and worse organ sound.  Looking back, it was one of the stupider decisions we made.  Should've just gone with the Hammond; I could've made it work.

We had one in my grandparents' basement when I was a kid.  I wish I had known then what I know now, because I would have done something to stop them from selling it at a yard sale for $50

Love the hammond organ so much (as much as I love the mellotron, in fact, and that's a lot).

I don't have a real hammond, but my stepfather has a nord which does a pretty good job. It gets so much use when my friend who plays keyboards comes down to record parts. Nice growl on a hammond is unbeatable.
This is as exciting as superluminal neutrinos. The sexy thing is that this actually exists :D

When i saw this Hammond thread i thought i had to share this:

Andreas Pålsson Trio

The drummer is a former percussion teacher of mine who also plays alot of jazz. He's in this jazz trio with an amazing Hammond player who actually works as a classical percussionist but also plays alot of Hammond organ. He's an amazing muscian in every way and i just had to share it.  :)
