British progressive metallers THRESHOLD are back in the studio working on the follow-up to 2012's "March Of Progress" for a 2014 release via Nuclear Blast.

Comments THRESHOLD guitarist Karl Groom: "It's good to be working on a new THRESHOLD album and cut the time between releases.

"Our touring for the 'March Of Progress' album inspired Rich [West, keyboards] and I to get writing not long after the main set of dates.

"We want to thank everyone for their support during that time. I should add that other members of the band have also have been writing!

"Right now I am tracking rhythm guitars and Johanne [James, drums] is due in the studio as soon as we put the finishing touched on a couple of songs.

"Hopefully 2014 will be another memorable year for THRESHOLD."

From FB yesterday.

Quote
Threshold have just revealed the title of their upcoming new record which is due to be released at the end of September via Nuclear Blast. The successor to their 2012 output "March Of Progress" will be called "For The Journey".

The album is currently being produced at Thin Ice Studios in England, by band members Karl Groom (guitars) and Richard West (keyboards).

Commented Richard West: "Our recording sessions have been wonderful, we’ve really enjoyed making this record. All the basic parts are recorded so now it's just a case of finishing our solos, compiling the vocals and adding more production moments. I think we've made a very solid record, we're really looking forward to putting it out there!"

The band will take a short break from the studio in April to perform shows in Germany and Holland before commencing the final mixing at Thin Ice Studios in May.

If the new one can top, or at least match, March of Progress then I'll be a happy camper.

Always keen to check out a new one from Threshold (a band I've followed from the start) - I didn't connect with March of Progress though , so hoping they regain whatever it was that was missing in terms of my taste.  Dead Reckoning was a goodun- just listened to that yesterday.

Finally got around to really give a good listen to March of Progress and its very solid Threshold.  :tup

I've always loved Damien's work with the band, so I was very happy to see him come back on board to be singer. Very good stuff.

Especially Rubicon, holy shit!!  :metal

I stumbled across some live vids of Threshold with Mac - looked like an official release. They were older songs I didn't know but very good. That bloke could sing. I find DW a bit harder to listen to. Not that he doesn't have a great voice, I just find it a bit camp.

Schwing!!  Really looking forward to this.  As much as I love Mac, I prefer Wilson fronted Threshold.

Paul.... there's a couple of Threshold live DVDs... very fun to watch.

That's probably the Critial Energy DVD.  Really solid release.

so I have March of Progress and I love it, but I have not heard a single note of any previous Threshold albums.  Where do I go next (I'm fully aware of the change in vocals)?

Hath, I'd go with Critical Energy. It's a live album with a lot of tunes. Some great stuff. A lot of the vocals were redone in the studio though. Makes the DVD kind of awkward at times. Still very cool.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Right you are... brain cramp.  I bout CE the same time I bought a couple of Royal Hunt DVDs, and my brain thought that it was Threshold had a couple of live DVDs.  My bad.

Personally, Subsurface is my favorite Mac-era album.  Though you honestly can't go wrong with any of them... Clone, Dead Reckoning and Hypothetical, Critical Mass are all awesome.  Extinct Instinct (Wilson era) is also excellent.

I really like Critical Mass, it might have to do with it being my first experience of Threshold, but it has some amazing tunes.

Essential Threshold albums:
Clone
Hypothetical
Critical Mass
Subsurface
Dead Reckoning
March of Progress

The other, older albums are good, but not as consistently good as 6.

If I could only one Threshold album, it would be Hypothetical.  Not that others aren't good, Hypothetical is simply great.

I'm no help, but pretty much like others said, anything from the Mac era is a good choice.

For anyone really into Damien's work with the band, I highly recommend Extinct Instinct. It sounds a tad bit dated, but the music is incredible.
