Yeah, well, musicians like that, they deserve to be put in a glass case and eternally immortalized the way Lenin is.

Meanwhile, they'll live another day and climb a little higher.

This is a good question that makes me think about another questions like how the music is gonna be in 50 years.  ???

What is clear is that you can't compare nowadays with the past 50 years cause today there is information everywhere and in 50 years the net will be plenty of information from the past (do not forget that this "internet for everybody" we know is really new) . Now you can see just some information from musicians from the past if you see some old lost videos/pictures, etc, etc. In the future it will not be the same with DT cause there is tons and tons of information, interviews, pictures, statements, etc, etc

Regarding information it is not the same to start being a popular band nowadays (or 15/20 years ago)  than 50 years ago. I suppose that the band will exist just for the future prog metal fans that will want to know from where these new metal bands they will listen, get their ideas or style.

They will most certainly still be playing because once they write and begin playing the "third and last dance" it must last FOREVER !
But the arc of your life will still be profound

In 50 years, the band will be working on Metropolis Part 3, their swan song. "Well, we all lived into out 90s and 100s, why not write part 3?, we'll invite MP, DS, KM (who won't show up). Unfortunately, Charlie will be 125, he's too frail to move."

Well, they've been through quite a bit in their career and had built it from the ground up. Which is good, because if they'd started from the top and worked their way down, there would be no reason to live forever.

Jordan will download himself into an iPad and live forever
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

John Myung. Long after the others are dead, Myung will be found in a temple on the top of a very very high mountain. One must climb up, arrive nearly dead before being granted a moment of his infinite wisdom.

Dream Theater will never die. The band members might, but the spirit carries on.

Think about it, they all have children... (well not sure about MM) they could form DT2: the spirit carries on! With max portnoy on drums!

But anyway I think it depends on line-up changes etc.. if JLB or JP left i don't think the spirit would carry on  :-[ it also depends on people's chart preferences in the future and if they still listen to rubbish. As its been said DT has committed fans and we WILL show our kids!

After having seen Rock of Ages, I want to put together a musical with DT music. I definitely want to do something like that in some future, maybe decades from now, but someday.

Oh, believe me, I'm a walking quote machine. I can find a quote for any given situation. And I'm happy to see quite a few people on these forums who do the same. With our quotes we stand strong and unite!

I guess that they'll be in the Afterlife.

But the important thing is that their music will carry beyond this life.

Personally I hope their music will just wither away, lest it be a nightmare to remember. Having to suffer through it is merely a rite of passage. But as I reflect upon these hollow years of DT music I can't help but look forward to a change of seasons when we are finally free of the music that has scarred us forever. I simply look forward to the day that James LaBrie is merely the silent man he should have been.

I usually just lay in bed and wait for sleep. However eventually my dreams pull me under and I'm surrounded by night.
