I've never seen those things, yet alone eaten quenepas. What do they taste like?
Where I'm from (the Dominican Republic), they aren't called quenepas, but Limonsillos. The name varies from country to country. From what I know, they are grown throughout the Caribbean and some of Central America, and are my favorite fruit in the world. As you can see in the picture, they are large seeds inside a cruncy green outer shell. Once you remove the shell, you can suck the fruity goodness off the seed before spitting it out. They grow on trees, and there is only one way to describe it. If you listen to Anathema's Weather Systems, there is the one song with the fellow talking about his near death experience. He talks about how he 'became the light', the warm feeling, etc., etc. When that flavor hits me, I swear to
god me, it's like a near death experience.
