When you spent several months listening to songs off of Elements of Persuasion thinking they were DT...
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Nowadays, I listen to instrumental jams first and foremost. Have I come back to life to you?  :)

Wait... Does that mean that you actually skip past the verses and to the instrumental sections?

Sometimes, like in Beyond This Life. I am no fool, it is unholy to skip any second of Images And  Words and Awake (and ADTOE too)  :lol

I know its sacrilege but I usually skip SFAM altogether.

Well, when that album originally leaked, the leak claimed that it was Octavarium, right?

No offense man in those words at all.  I'm always just really surprised at how different opinions can be around a band loved as well as Dream Theater is (on this forum).  I should've worded it better.

when you listened to them. :neverusethis:
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Yeah.  Some were fooled, as there were eight tracks and obviously JLB was singing, but people quickly figured it out, since a lot of people actually had Elements of Persuasion and blew the whistle.  Also, most people who'd heard that there would be eight songs on the album also knew that one of them was supposed to be really long, and that didn't fit with EoP.

I remember when the early version of Octavarium really did leak, and the title track ended with the flute solo.  I thought it was sweet.  I miss that flute solo.

I wasn't really offended, though maybe I should have worded that better too.  :lol
I was merely curious what other opinion of mine you disagreed with. It's probably the "Don't Look Past Me is better than The Glass Prison", right?

Speaking of Don't Look Past Me. For the longest time, I thought Don't Look Past Me was originally supposed to be on Scenes From A Memory, but was cut when they decided to make it into a concept album instead of just a song called Metropolis Pt. 2

Maybe because on the Cleaning Out The Closet cd it's labeled to have been recorded in 1991 (or 90... idr) / 1999

right?

Well, because Cleaning Out The Closet itself came out in 1999, and I knew that DLPM wasn't on the FII demos, so it couldn't have been from that album. And I've never heard the band talk about it, the way they talked about ACOS or To Live Forever, so nothing indicated that it was written as far back as those two. And since I didn't have the actual copy of Cleaning Out The Closet, I didn't have the label to tell me when the song was written. So that was the best guess I could come up with.

When you see the track you have is sung by an artist named "Dream Theatre" and do nothing about it.

YES! I think I once even liked a DT-related Facebook page that had "Theatre" in the name, nowadays I'd nerdrage.

yeah, I cringe every time I see it spelled "Theatre" regardless of the context or reference. Even when it's not referring to the band.

My first taste of Dream Theater was back in 2001 when my uncle played Live Scenes From New York in his car and I heard all the songs and I heard certain themes coming back in several different times and I remember thinking "these guys suck, the CD is only a couple of songs in and they're already ripping themselfs off! Lazy douchebags is what they are."  :lol. Mind you, I was 12 and didn't know that it was a concept album. I don't think I even knew what that was at the time.

When I first heard Lines In The Sand, for whatever reason I thought Petrucci was doing the backing vocals in the chorus.
