You know what degree is pointless though? A Master's degree.

I get mine next month and I'm eligible for the same jobs that people with associates are.

Depends: Masters in what?

If I had meant an MBA I'd have said MBA. A Masters in just about anything else is pointless.

Which is why I have to get my Doctorate.

What matters is the degree you get

This brings up another problem, however. Is what matters the degree you get? You could self-study everything the typical college student learns, but why are these lessons never validated until you work through the outdated, inefficient, and expensive American school system?

That's right, which is why your intelligence matters, not your ability to get a degree. My train of thought:

Getting a degree is, in some ways, just a paper-based badge that says you've been through three to five years of additional schooling, and as such it is likely that you've learned a little bit more than someone who hasn't.
Getting an honours is like saying I know my shit enough and am committed enough to write a boring essay on it.
Getting a masters is like saying I've learned a little bit more than someone that has a Bachelor degree.
Getting a doctorate means I've spent enough time on this to be considered an expert, so gimme bank.

Once you've got your first job, its your skill, intelligence and ability that get you anywhere. The paper, and your ability to sell yourself, get you the first job.
I punch those numbers into my calculator and they make a happy face.

I mean what I got from college is not that I learned specific things that were useful, but that it taught me how to think.
