It's not so much the 3D, granted that's part of it, but this is one of the first movies I recall seeing in theaters and can't wait to experience it again.

It's not so much the 3D, granted that's part of it, but this is one of the first movies I recall seeing in theaters and can't wait to experience it again.

Alright, well that makes more sense. It does seem like a fun movie to see in theaters. If it were being re-released in 2D and didn't cost much I'd probably go.

Fun movie, back when it was out. No reason for it to be resurrected though, aside from the occasional Saturday afternoon on USA Network.

Liked it when it came out but I see no reason to do this. Not many will pay to see this old movie in 3D. But if your into it, Chino, I'm happy for you.
At this point, this movie is a rainy afternoon nothing is on so I'll watch it movie.

Come on Cozmo, this is just a childish thing for you to say. I mean.....it's COMPLETELY possible that he mistook Starship Troopers for ID4.

Speaking of Starship Troopers, I've heard that Neal Moritz is making a remake (or wanting to make a remake) of it.

Also, there's that anime Starship Troopers film coming out this year (apparently, it ignores the 2nd and third films and just continues from the first).

Way off topic, but I just had a funny idea. What if 5/8 or MP.com became DTF's "outside". So if two posters are going at it a lot and the mods threaten them, they literally just start a fighting thread at another forum and yell at each other there.

Anywho. Did we ever find out what the aliens wanted? Was it the generic "kill us all and take out stuff" thing? Was at least better than Cowboy's and Aliens' "Aliens came for gold" plot?

Aside from the "virus" thing I just mentioned, I enjoy the movie. It has three things that I like very much: Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and explosions. Really, that's all a movie needs.

It's not that Will Smith can't act, it's that he can only play the character of Will Smith. And I don't particularly like the character of Will Smith to begin with.

I think it's funny when people don't like the movie.

Well, yeah. Because of the alien ship they had at Area 51, they understood the computer systems of the alien mothership well enough to create a virus that could corrupt its computers.

"But they wrote the virus in one night?"

Yeah.

This is a movie where Will Smith punches an alien and defiantly tells it "Welcome to Earth!" Randy Quaid's in it. Why do you care?

"Because it's everything stupid about Hollywood movies."

But the thing is, a movie like Twister is only enjoyable for its unintentional comedy because it pretends to be logical and tries to be serious. Otherwise, it's not worth very much. Independence Day has actual emotion and logic woven into the script, but they're secondary to the fact that it's meant to be entertainment.

And? What's wrong with enjoying it?

"It makes you stupid."

Why?

"Because nothing makes sense, it gratuitously uses American patriotism themes as part of the plot, and it takes a potentially serious situation and uses it for action."

That's the point.

Starship Troopers? Who the hell could possibly sit through that piece of crap? Now if were talking War Of The Worlds, we are talking pure epic!
War Of The Worlds is a better film all around. IMO. Independence Day was great in 96, but its a bit cheesy today. I can't take Randy Quaid in that movie. Also, Bill Pullman and his speech wears thin.
Of coarse when Hollywood tells the story of my UFO siting it will be in 3D! Chino already has tickets in advance and plans to see it 30 or 40 times, and start an epic thread about it.
