Damn, I didn't realize the movie was that old.

That being said, I've never seen it all the way through and don't care to.

I was about to get pissed, but then I remembered that I still haven't seen Wall-E and Up, so I have no room to talk.

I haven't seen those either. I'm just not interested. I like the Toy Story movies and The Incredibles but that's about it. Not the Finding Nemo was bad, but not really a multiwatcher like Toy Story. Cars was meh as was Ratatouille and A Bug's Life was ok I guess. None of Pixars films were bad by any means, but only a few were great.

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of Up being Pixar's best film.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

You're missing out, man.  I'm almost 50 and my kids are teenagers, but I don't care.  I've watched every Pixar film made and think each one is brilliant.  At the very least, the animation is first-class, and the story is usually very, very good.  It just seems weird that you like some of the stuff they've done but have no interest in checking out the rest.

You were right about A Bug's Life and Cars and Ratatouille. But Wall-E and Up deserve to be watched (Up particularly).

True story: I've never cried during a movie. Up got me closest.

I'm picky like that. The trailers didn't interest me, but maybe one day if I have the opportunity (am bored, family night) and those movies are picked, I'll check them out.

I thought I wouldn't like Tangled, but was surprised how good it was. Though that isn't Pixar.

I didn't care for Up that much.  For me, it didn't live up to the hype.

My favorite Pixar films are the Toy Story films and Finding Nemo.

I'd say they did that with Toy Story way better. I doubt that this time it was intentional. The target demographic for Monsters, Inc. Is probably a couple years away from college.

Monsters, Inc. was released in '01, so the prequel will come out 12 years after. Seems right on.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some intent behind the setting; Toy Story 3's plot was really just a way to get the kids who grew up watching 1 and 2 riled up, and I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up going for something similar here.

I'm not surprised.  At this point, it's practically a given that their animation is gonna kick ass.  The question is whether the story will do it justice.  But I've never been disappointed in a Pixar story, except for Cars 2, which we just watched recently.  Actually, that's not quite true.  I'd heard that the story wasn't great, so I kept expectations low, so I wasn't really disappointed.  It was disappointing, though, that the story sucked the way it did.

A Taken Sequel?

Considering the first movie, I can't imagine the second being all that good.

And now Anna Karenina is being adapted. I'm mildly interested, having read it in school for a Russian lit class. Anyway I hope they don't give it a Hollywood ending....good God they better not.

You know what makes me sad?

Now, X-men filming rights are owned by Fox (I think, but I know it is not Marvel) - and Black Panther is either owned by Marvel or some other studio that sucks very hard at comic-book adaptations. Just look at what they did with Punisher.

The trouble is, in my humble opinion, Black Panther / Storm is probably the best love story that ever graced the Marvel universe (maybe, just maybe, second to Jean/Logan or depending on your vantage point, Jean/Cyclops but hey).

I am sad that we will never see them getting married on the big screen - or at least not in the near future. *snif*

Just finished watching The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which was interesting, because I had already seen the Swedish version of it. However, the Hollywood version easily blew that out of the water. I especially preferred the rape scene and the soundtrack, which includes an awesome cover of the Immigrant Song.

Oh lord.  I never even knew they made a second one!

So, I just heard that GI Joe release date got pushed back to May 2013.  Apparently test audiences shat all over it, and they're re-shooting a bunch of scenes, and going to add 3-D.  Well, flush that initial marketing campaign down the toilet, and up the inventory costs for all the toys that will be sitting in Hasbro warehouses.  I suppose that's probably a good idea though - rather than have a second flop after the cheez-turd that was Battleship.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

John Carter

I heard it wasn't bad, just poorly marketed.  I also heard that the story, while entertaining, could seem unbelievably dumb at times, but I was curious to see for myself, knowing the the source material is a century old.  These both turned out to be true.

I thought it was a good movie.  It started rather strangely, and asked the viewer to absorb a lot of stuff up front that would make more sense later, and that can be dangerous, but once I was able to sort out what the hell was going on, it was pretty cool.  There was perhaps too much going on in terms of plot for most audiences.  It was sci-fi, and IMO good sci-fi does demand a lot of the viewer, but they threw a lot at you without a lot of explanation or time to absorb it.  The result was something that was not light entertainment, but was delivered as though it were.  I don't think the filmmakers quite knew what they were doing here, as far as how to present the material.

Obligatory comment about Lynn Collins being hot.
