Well, I am completely not shocked that this tour is coming nowhere near me  :lol

Strange pairing, if you ask me. Though I really like YES, Toto will play circles around them. And if the listeners aren't totally prog-snobs that sneer at everything that sounds remotely like pop, Toto will definitely steal the show.

The Yes-members are clearly past their prime, while the playing in Toto is still top-notch.

Even Yesfans are saying the same thing.  Well, a lot of them are.  Many are prog-snobs who are aghast that Toto and Yes are on the same bill.  I've always thought Toto had more chops than the average pop band, and I have no problem with it.

Steve Lukather was recently interviewed by Something Else! and he talked about how there are actually a lot of connections between the two bands.  I knew of some of them, but this is quite a list.

On the face of it, it does seem like a strange pairing.  But I like strange pairings, and I would LOVE to see a show like this.

cool interview with David Paich on writing/recording "Africa", an all-time favorite song of mine.

It's amazing how catchy the chorus in Africa is even to this day. Which makes this comment even more funny:

“We hadn’t the faintest idea that this was going to be a hit, maybe until the head of Columbia Records called us and said, ‘You know that they’re starting to play this song “Africa”?

Hopefully this hasn't been linked before - great interview with Luke from a couple of years ago that , amongst other things, sheds a lot of light on the various singers and who got close.

https://ultimateclassicrock.com/steve-lukather-interview/

I found it particularly interesting to know how close we were to having guys like Eric Martin and Michael McDonald singing for them.

40 Year-Old Virgin made me realise how annoying Michael McDonald's voice can get, so I'm glad he didn't get the part.  His back up vocals on I'll Be Over You always make me lol.

Toto was amazing the other day. I've seen them 3 times and I probably rank this the highest. Williams killed it and Shannon Forrest was the closest thing to hearing Jeff all over again, seriously! They were on fire and the sound was great. Some of my friends thought the set list was a bit of a let down given they skipped a few hits, nothing that bothered me though.

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/toto/2015/falkoner-teatret-copenhagen-denmark-43c9839b.html

Stranger In Town, Never Enough, Running Out Of Time and Orphan was great hearing live.

Shannon Forrest
Lenny Castro
David Hungate
Steve Porcaro
Steve Lukather
Joseph Williams
David Paich

That line up alone is pretty unique and I urge anyone fan or not to see them live this tour.

Williams without Home of the Brave  :tdwn  But on the other hand Caught In The Balance is a nice surprise :tup :tup

Barely a bad word to be found about Toto live these days - hopefully they make it out to Australia again.

Yea HotB is always fun live, can't say I missed it given there were so many other great moments during the show. Hungates levitating bass was hilarious. Not really levitating but he didn't use a strap so his bass was on a stand but you couldn't see it so it looked like it levitated.

Holds my thumbs for Australia.  :)

That was excellent.  I've got a managers meeting in August in Columbus OH and the last night Toto is playing outside of Columbus.  I wonder if I can talk my boss into going!

Toto - Africa - Live Montreux 2015
Pamela - Live Montreux 2015

That percussion section! Nice seeing Lenny Castro with Toto again, his Conga tones are silky smooth. Then we have Shannon which reminds me of Jeff in some ways in keeping it simple, in time but still groovy. Had no problem with Simon just to be clear but there's something about Shannon that feels spot on. When I saw them last summer he just instantly felt like he had played in the band for years.

BTW Hungate does a slick bass line at 3:54 in Pamela.

Lenny Castro is such an integral part of the trademark Toto sound and he played an almost all of their studio albums, he could as well be a member of the band.

So Toto ain't amused by this  :lol Not sure if it's the local promoter or Bobby but either way it's pretty funny:

First I've heard of this, but apparently it's been going on for years.  If that's true, then there's no chance that Bobby isn't aware of it.

The ticket doesn't say "Former lead singer of Toto", it says "Toto" at the top.

Just saw Toto last month.  Excellent show but the casino cut their set short.  I fucking hate casinos.  I heard at Casino shows the band is normally pretty easy to find so I brought my XIV CD to get signed (excellent album...one of their best IMO).  I saw two roadies walking down the hall with all the requisite Toto paraphernalia and I said, "I can't wait to see those guys tonight!  Do you know if they'll be signing autographs after the show?"  One roadie sort of looked at the other and they were like, "Uh, maybe."

As I got the elevator I had this weird feeling.

It was confirmed as I saw David Paich take the stage.

That was him in the hallway.

He's a lot shorter in person and without his tophat and stage attire he's pretty easy to miss.

I never did see any other members and went prowling around the casino for quite a while.

Yes, this is going on for years (or even decades) and has led to many arguments. This is clearly Bobby's doing, or at least he's not stopping the promoter. And it's sad but kinda understandable from his point of view. No one is going to see him without Toto, he isn't a big name outside of the band and his voice is shot and you get the feeling that he's needing money.

Good news. That will be quite a short span between albums considering how long it took for XIV. There were some really good songs on that one, but the production lets it down a bit for me.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.

Kingdom Of Desire (my favorite Toto album), Tambu and Mindfields, (imo) are much stronger albums than Falling In Between and XIV.
I'm actually surprised that Luke isn't working on another solo album between two Toto studio releases.
