damn straight
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Impressive sir. But to make things easier (and unfortunently less hysterical for me) pronounce my name as Zeigmund

So I just wanted to say hello to everybody ;)
My name is Ola, I'm 19 and I'm polish. I've been listening to Dream Theater for 6 years. In 2005 me and my brother got a 'Scenes from a NY' (from his friends who called it 'a dolorous music'!) and we both fell in love with DT  :heart SFaM is still my favourite album.
I've been to their concert only once in 2007, and I'm going to see them again in July.
Dream Theater is my #1 band, but I like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Dave Matthews Band too. I'm also getting into Genesis, Rush and Yes - the bands which my father always recommended to me but I wasn't mature enough to fully understand their music (;
Anyway, since we all have something in common ; ) it will be a pleasure to post with you guys.

I'm making a history. AND YOU?

I only just noticed this thread, so I thought I should say hello in here.  ;D

My name's Ross, I'm from Perth in Scotland and I run a football (soccer) website with a friend for a living. I'll be 26 in a couple of weeks, but I've only been listening to Dream Theater since around 2005-2006 after a friend introduced me to Octavarium. I seem to be obsessed with the band though, I just can't stop listening to them! Easily my favourite band and nobody else really comes close.

Favourite DT albums:
1. Images and Words
2. Train of Thought
3. Octavarium

Favourite DT tracks:
1. Metropolis Part 1
2. Learning to Live
3. Octavarium
4. In the Name of God
5. Take the Time/In the Presence of Enemies/A Change of Seasons - can't decide what to give the 5th spot to!

Music is one of my favourite hobbies and I listen to quite a lot every day (mostly Dream Theater!) I'm quite heavily into prog-metal at the moment, but also enjoy lots of other different types of rock and metal, post-rock, grunge, thrash etc. Here's my Last.fm profile: https://www.last.fm/user/krands

Unfortunately my friends don't really share the same taste in music as me, but I've made a friend online in the last 3 years who likes a lot of the same bands as me. He also lives in Glasgow, which has allowed me to go and see a lot of bands live over the last 18months or so which is great. We went to Prog Nation 09 in Glasgow which was my first time seeing DT live  :metal (as well as Opeth, Bigelf and Unexpect). It was only a 90 minute show from DT unfortunately and I was hoping for a better setlist, but the performance was still great. Hopefully they come back to Glasgow in support of the new album and play a longer show. I NEED to see either Metropolis or Learning to Live live!  :D

Not sure why it took me so long to join the forum, since I love Dream Theater and I've been involved with the internet and forums since the late 90s (I'm a senior moderator on a Pro Evolution Soccer video game fansite, so you don't have to worry about me breaking any rules or anything  :lol)

Anyway, I'm rabbiting on for far too long now. Seems like a great forum, lots of friendly members and interesting chat going on   :tup

Hello everybody in DTF land, I have been lurking on this forum for awhile and finally decided to sign up.
I have been a fan since 2004 and the album that set it off was Train of Thought. I have only seen them once :(
(the infamous concert at the Pagent with the guy trying to get the stick that Portnoy threw and then the guy fell off the balcony)
Other bands that are my favorite are Rush, Porcupine Tree, Queen, The Beatles, Iron Maiden, Tool, and Opeth.
Other activities I enjoy are reading, and watching dvd's.

I look forward to chatting about DT and other topics with you all.  :)

Old Blood, New Soul.

Hey all.  I've missed this place.  Not sure what happened but I used to hang here years ago.  I think I probably joined 9 years ago-ish?  Then one day about 5 or 6 years ago the site was gone.  Couldn't locate it on DT's website.  Not sure what happened but I was sad it was gone.  So after many years on another board I figured I'd do a search to see if I could find a cool DT board again.  Ba Bam!!!  Once I started reading I noticed some of the names that I remembered.  HefDaddy, Bosk, Millahh and Rumborak.  Ha ha, even when I saw Rumborak's pic I thought "Oh yeah, the goat!".

Unfortunately, I have no clue what my old screen name was.  Don't have access to that e mail to see if I am still in the system.  I could have been deleted because of inactivity, who knows?  At any rate, I'm glad to find this site again and look forward to chatting it up about DT at such a pivotal time in their career.

Hi all!

After months of visiting this forum I decided to sign up.

Even though I've only been exposed to DT since 2008, I have collected all their albums, dvd's, etc. and as of last year my own Music Man BFR Petrucci guitar.

I've seen DT live twice and number three is coming up next month!

Musical interest: Death-/Black-/Prog-metal, Rock, Classical/Movie Scores, and all things Prog in general.

Anyways, excited to be here!

Tom

Wow, how did this thread elude my eyes? I looked around for it when I first joined, but couldn't find it for some reason.

So anyway, in spite of posting for like a day straight...

Hi, my name is Eric.
I live in Ontario, Canada. Though originally I'm from Russia.

Umm... Dream Theater have been on my radar for many, many years, but it's only within the last 4 or so that I pretty much started really paying attention and caught up with their entire library, history.
I'm usually the kind of guy who, in any medium, or subgenre of a medium, (music, for example), I'll latch onto one particular artist and pretty much live and breathe it. That would be DT in this case, even though I do listen to and love lots of other bands. Maiden, Fear Factory, Megadeth, Queen, Epica, and even non-rock stuff like Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash and recently to a lesser extent, some rap, I still hold DT above all else. So yeah, big fan of DT.

Studying to be an actor... Umm... I also sing, my dad was a singer, so I kinda inherited that. And I teach Art class, mostly to little kids, as a way to make money right now.

So yeah, I'm definitely liking these boards. It's a lot less packed than I thought it would be, and seems to have enough regulars to build an actual community, so I'll gladly become a part of it.

Also, Welcome, Matt!

Hi, my name is Brandon and i am from Vermont.  No, Vermont is not a town or a city, it is an actual state in the U.S.
I have been a lurker on here for a while and decided to join up 3 days ago.
I first got into DT in 2008 when i played Panic Attack on Rock Band 2. (I know it's lame)  They pretty much opened up the world of prog to me, and now it has become my favorite genre of music.  I am the only one out of all the people i know who likes DT and prog music in general.
Also MP was my inspiration to pick up the drums which have now turned into my main passion in my life.
