Hello I'm Josh, Originally from Venezuela but recently moved to South Florida. I've been a big fan of DT for about 20 years. Dream Theater played 3 times in Venezuela I went to all 3 and I'm super excited that they are coming to Orlando in a couple of months. Hope to meet and see some of you there  :metal

Hey Sarah, it's been a while. How's life treating you?

Honestly, things are going pretty well! My life has been disrupted some due to medical issues over the past few years, but I love my job and the people in my life and I'm optimistic about recovery :) How are you?

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about the medical issues, I hope it's better now though.

I am fine, thanks. Working hard, as usual. Life's pretty good overall.

Doing alright, all things considered. A shit-ton has changed in six years, that's for damn sure.

Not quite a newbie but haven't posted for three years... saw someone mention DTF on Facebook earlier (I have so many friends that I forgot I made here!) and figured I'd come back and see what's what. A lot has changed in three years for me, glad to see the forum is still doing well!

Don't play him any Steven Wilson!!   :rollin

New with me ... I still have to read you Prog-music / sausage-fest paper. The proposal and dissertation is still sitting in my home google drive folder.  :blush

Jingle.kids turn 19 next week. I moved 3 months ago. Had a mid-life retirement back in '17. Those are the biggies I guess.

Thanks cramx3!

Oh he's getting a tonne of SW purely through me singing in the car, he got most of Hand Cannot Erase yesterday 😂 but direct to bump so far I started him off with a Satie Gymnopedie as it's calm and soothing and peaceful, a piece by Gleb Kolyadin called Eidolon for similar reasons, and then yesterday the famous variation from Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini. Need to build a Spotify playlist for him really as it's quite tricky finding stuff I love that isn't too heavy or angry, but I'm keen to find stuff with strong simple percussion. Maybe Blood on the Tightrope by Lunatic Soul. My own mother played me music via her bump during her pregnancy with me and it's really nice to be doing the same for him!

Haha so many people have that paper, I haven't even read it for years I think I'd cringe! It seems so basic now looking back!

Congrats on the move, I just moved a few weeks back myself. What prompted it?

Evermind

Welcome back!

I'm not entirely sure but it could've been my Facebook comment about the Protest the Hero t-shirt guy.

I should really spin the Gleb Kolyadin album more, I liked it a lot, but I've got to check out the new iamthemorning first, which I should probably do right now, yeah.

When jingle.kids graduated high school, we knew we had nothing keeping us in the city that we grew up in.  Long story short, but the city was turning to shits - increase in crime; terrible healthcare facility; inadequate infrastructure to support the growth; absolutely atrocious drivers were the big things.  Jingle.daughter got t-boned by someone who completely blew a stop sign, and HE LIVES ON THE CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION!  Literally, he pulled out of his driveway, and just ran the stop sign directly in front of his own house.  After that, no word of a lie, I must've seen 3-4 other people blow right thru stop signs/lights in the next two months.  That was last July, and sealed the deal for us to get the hell out.

Now we have a nice bungalow with a pool, and over an acre of property in a community with a population of about 35,000 (instead of 700,000+).

Serenity now.

KidInTheDark666

Hi guys, a new member here! I'm a Finnish high school student and a recently addicted Dream Theater fanboy. I just started listening to DT earlier this year but still managed to catch them on their Distance Over Time summer festival tour. I'll be seeing them again when the tour hits Europe in January.

My favorite DT albums are Train of Thought, Images & Words, and Scenes From a Memory. My favorite songs include Endless Sacrifice, Panic Attack, In the Name of God, Metropolis pt.1 and The Glass Prison. I'm not a prog expert so I'm probably not the most typical Dream Theater fan, and I think that shows in some of my preferences. ;D. Some of my other favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Sabaton and Avenged Sevenfold.

I'm looking forward to interesting discussions on this forum!

cramx3

Welcome and don't worry about not being a prog head, you'll fit in if you enjoy those bands and maybe you will branch out when you're done with discovering DT, I know I did.

There's this American band - - that's pretty good.  You'll hear a little bit about them if you hang around.

Mr. Paralyzed

Greetings from NC. Just joined the group, but have been listening to DT since 87. Was lucky enough to break away from the grind and see them 2 weeks ago in Asheville, NC. It was good hearing Scenes from a Memory Live again. Cheers   :metal :metal :metal

It just might...most of us fogeys go back to '92 when PMU came out on the radio, can't think of users who are from the Majesty days.

Welcome bud!!!

ProgKen

Hi all! I'm from Long Island, NY and have been listening to DT since Images and Words was released. My other favorite bands include Rush (I've been a fan since 2112 was released, yes I'm that old! 59), Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, Riverside, and Haken. This looks like a great community and I'm looking forward to learning more about the band and the people here!
