I don't think I've done this here yet, so, since I think I'm changing this to my "home" forum on the internet I guess I should introduce myself.  So here goes.

My name is Barry.  I'm a pretty avid fan of Dream Theater, (love the new album!  :metal ) I am a 47 year old I.T. Department Director and web developer.  I am also a musician - I started playing music about 40 years ago when I was 7 years old.  My first instrument was the Clarinet.  I took music lessons all the way through high school, where I played in both the marching band and the orchestra, although by then I had switched to Tenor Sax.  When I was a teenager, I also took guitar lessons and since my father always had rock bands practicing in our basement, I learned to play drums by watching and then imitating the drummer in my father's band.

These days I have a collaborative studio-project band called The ANABASIS and it's one of the greatest joys of my life to have been able to have one of my favorite keyboardist, Ryo Okumoto of Spock's Beard join us.  Our debut album, entitled "Back From Being Gone" will drop in about 2 or 3 weeks.  We just signed a multi-record deal with a fairly well-known progressive rock label, although I can't mention it in any detail yet,  and I'm actually already working on the follow up album.   In a very limited release to friends and relatives, the reviews were very encouraging and our music was best described as "Transatlantic with balls."  I think a few people who post here have a copy of the album.

I've been married for 11 years, I have a 23 year old son who is a Master at Arms in the US Navy and I have two dogs and an African Grey Parrot named Oscar.

If you're into music gear, you can see my stuff on this web page.

My favorite bands are, in no particular order:

Dream Theater
 Opeth
 Spock's Beard
 Transatlantic
 Iron Maiden
 The Flower Kings

I eat way too much pizza.

And I would definitely walk barefoot over 10 miles of broken glass for a chance to be reincarnated as Charlize Theron's bicycle seat.

That just about does it.

When my band's album actually drops, I'll lightly spam the music section of the board in case anyone's interested in picking up a copy or listening to the live stream - the label we're on will be streaming the entire CD for people to preview before buying.

Hello everyone,

I am one of the, what I assume to now be many, Mike Portnoy Forum refugees. I was known as Panic Attack over there. I enjoy lots of music and play a bit of bass.

I've been a fan of DT since 2004 and seen them 6 times since then.

Well I guess I must have registered some time, but it must have been ages ago.
I guess with all the drama going on at the MP forum I thought I'd head back over here and say hi to you all and hope for more peaceful waters and a different perspective on things.

So hi (again) I'm Cyclopssss, 46 year old male from Rotterdam in the Netherlands.  I'm a singer in a classic rock cover band (60's/70's/80's/90's) and work as a medical typist at a hospital in my residence. I'm sad to say this is the first time in about 8 years time that I won't be seeing DT on tour.

See you guys around!

Well, I've been here a few... weeks, months? Meh. Anyway, yeah, also another refugee from MP's forum. The place just wasn't all that interesting anymore, and activity over there was dropping when I finally decided to leave.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

Hi - I'm Glen - I live in Parramatta in Sydney, Australia and am still pretty much a DT noob obsessive. I've been listening to them since the start of 2010.  I realised that I was a big fan when it hurt that MP left, and also when I got up at 6.00 in the morning after a late show to watch the final part of "The Spirit Carries On".  I've been lurking here pretty much ever since.  I'm new to forums but this place seems welcoming so I hope to see you 'round ...
Glen.

I'm Simon, an almost 25 year old Swede with a personality that leans towards geekness. I study engineering even though I'd rather pound heavy guitar riffs on a stage somewhere. I was 5 years old when my older cousin turned me on to Metallica's Kill 'em all album, and since then music with cool guitars has always spoken to me in a special way. I discovered Pink Floyd when I was 16, Rush when I was 17 and DT when I was 18, after hearing about the great drummer Mike Portnoy when talking to a friend about how awesome Neal Peart is. I read up a little about DT, and after hearing/reading MP describing themselves as "Pink Floyd, Metallica and Rush thrown in a blender and run at full speed", I instantly knew I'd love this band. The first time I heard about DT though was seeing JM in a catalog for Yamaha basses/guitars.

Happy flightings.

hello everyone! my name is davor. i'm a 25 year old croatian college student, music fan, occasional guitar player and a singer in a traditional croatian (dalmatian) a capella folk ensemble we call klapa. i've had 10 years of musical education, and play guitar since i was 8. at about that time i've discovered Pink Floyd, my greatest musical love. when i was 15, i was introduced to the work of Joe Satriani and it has forever changed my view of guitar and it's possibilities. a year later i went to discover John Petrucci (through G3) and shortly after that his band, Dream Theater  ;D. those would be three of my favorite bands and musicians, although i really like a lot of stuff- basically anything that for some reason catches my ear (the last being beyonce's ''best thing i never had''  :blush  )

the introduction is a bit long, sorry for that.   :azn:
