Well, I figure I should introduce myself. I'm 425 and I'm new (obviously).

Basic background: Before around a year ago I wasn't into music at all. Eventually I allowed a friend to show me some of his music and I became hooked on heavy metal by way of Iron Maiden. Since then, I've been on a whole journey of discovery through the genre of metal which also made me a fan of prog through Rush. Around 6 months ago, the same friend recommended to me this band called Dream Theater, and the album Train of Thought. I quite liked it, but did not fall in love with it. It was enough to put Images and Words on my list, though, and I got that album around 6 weeks ago. That time, I did fall in love with Dream Theater, and I would say that right now they're on about equal footing with Iron Maiden as my favorite band.

Since then I have started buying the rest of Dream Theater's albums in something of chronological order. In addition to Train of Thought and Images and Words, I now have Awake and Scenes From a Memory (I decided to skip Falling Into Infinity for now since it seemed to be among the less popular albums). I've also ordered Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, but I don't actually have it yet.

So, yeah, that was the short version of my getting into Dream Theater. Just a few quick favorites in case someone oddly cares:

Favorite DT Album: Images and Words, though I've only listened to Scenes From a Memory once so far.
Favorite Non-DT Album: Iron Maiden - either The X Factor or The Final Frontier. I know, odd choice.
Favorite Bands (just listing 5): Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Rush, Metallica, Megadeth

So, anyway, I always make these intro posts too long, so I'm just going to stop there.

I almost wish I could go back to the time when I could have made statements like these. You're in for quite a ride!

Don't let the popularity or lack thereof of FII keep you from exploring it. There is lots of good stuff on that album. It's just that the lows seem to be lower than on the other DT albums, to me at least.

Falling Into Infinity does not deserve any kind of disdain. There are some low poins there, true, but the highs are some of the highest that DT have ever recorded.

Oh, I'll come back to FII in the future and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I'm just trying to make plans on a fairly limited music budget to get the stuff that is supposed to be best first, because sometimes I'm impatient like that. I'm certainly not holding it in any disdain, especially given that I haven't heard it yet.

Hello there!

Sort of a newb here... used to post a while ago under the 9:00 name on the original DT.net forums and then kinda moved away from it after it moved over here.

Anyway, been hitting a DT surge in my music listening over the last couple of months and got me thinking of the good ole' times I had on the DT forums, so I'm back! Any other oldies still around? Bosk1? Reapsta? 6er?

I've been reading this forum for years, and - at last - I have decided to grab the 'pen' and see if I can give my contribution to this place.
My name is Marco, I will be 30 this year and live in Florence, Italy. I am a travel agent and an instructor of western martial arts (strange pairing, I know). I also am a singer of some sorts, even though I haven't been part of a band in years (not enough free time, but that's really something that I miss). I have been into the Dream Theater thing since 1999 and - for what I know - I was the first to realize and upload the translation of all texts of DT discography in italian language, including B-sides and alternate song versions. It is a great pleasure for me to be here, and I would like to thank you all for your posts and for your efforts in keeping this place alive and kicking through all these years.
