ROUND 1 RESULTS!
So I listened to each song 2-3 times to get a good idea of how much I liked it. I'm going to use a 0-10 pt scale, where a 5 will be the average score.
So here we go!
Elite - Royal Hunt - Time Will Tell
This was quite an enjoyable prog metal song on the first listen! The vocals were pretty catchy, good chorus and a great solo at the end. However on the second listen I got a little bored with the instrumental sections and I felt the song went on a couple of minutes too long. Overall a solid song and a good benchmark.
5 PointsWolfking - Pendragon - The Freak Show
What an awesome song! This one had me headbanging straight from the opening riff and the guitar work on the song is just gorgeous all the way through. I have heard of these guys on this forum but never really felt like checking them out until now. The vocal melodies were great and catchy and worked very well with the heavy riffs. Nice short song which is very easy to love on the first few listens. Will check out this album definitely!
8 PointsGorille - Unexpect - Orange Vigilantes
These guys have been on my to check out list for ages after hearing one or two songs hear or there, so I knew what to expect (pun intended
). I knew you love them and I was very excited to see you had selected a song by them! Wow I don't think I have ever listened to something that jam-packed and intense. I think this is a band I could really love, but thats the problem with roulettes - I only have time to give it a couple of listens, and I think this sort of music really needs time to grow (for me at least
). The female and growled vocals and all the instruments really compliment each other and I loved the chaotic feel of the song. Will definitely pick up this album and In a Flesh Aquarium soon. It'll be interested to see how much I end up liking these guys, and I'm very excited to get into them!
6 PointsKari - The Antlers - Kettering
I really wasn't sure what to expect here. A very soft song to begin with with some nice quiet vocals which is very different to my other submissions. Some awesome vocal melodies and the heavier section of the song is really great! I wish it kind of built up to something instead of just fading out like that though. But that does really work sometimes! (An example I love would be A Song for Milly Michaelson by Thrice, the drums keep building up then kind of die which I love). Another song I feel would benefit from more listens and I will add this band to my check out list.
6 PointsRavenheart - Poe - Haunted
I was expecting something a lot softer, Nexus style, I dunno why so I was a bit surprised when the drums came in and the song turned out a bit more fast-paced and upbeat. This song had me straight from the beginning! I really liked everything about it. The vocals were very catchy and the chorus is just awesome. I love that "ba-da-ba-ba" in the background for a lot of the song too. She is a really sweet singer and I am definitely going to check out her albums! Great pick!
8 PointsJingle - Nightwish - Planet Hell
This song to me seemed to be trying to be a bit too epic and failing. I didn't find the vocals or riffs all that catchy (although the female singer has an AMAZING voice). I don't really know what else to say except the mix of male and female vocals worked quite well, although even though I know Nightwish was a big part of introducing that style to metal it didn't sound very interesting to me. Not terrible but not very good imo, sorry
3 PointsNekov - Iluvatar - In the Eye
This song started off extremely well! A very happy and floaty, magical feel and I thought it was going to be a very different spin on prog metal. I love the instrumental sections of this song, however when the vocals came in I got bored pretty quickly - they didn't sound like they suited the song to me and the melodies don't do very much for me. The instrumental sections are great though, some awesome keyboard work!
4 PointsReaper - Mogwai - Yes! I am a long way from home
Cool song! Some interesting samples at the beginning, and I love post rock, although I do own one of Mogwai's albums so I knew kinda what to expect. It was fairly standard post rock (not that that is a bad thing) but it was good with a melancholy feel (like a lot of the genre
). Like most post-rock I think it would work a lot better listened with the full album. The end was very interesting aswell.
6 PointsI generally loved the selections guys! Thanks heaps! In future, if someone sends me a song I already know I'll just let you know and you can send me another song.
The Rankings so far:

Ravenheart - 8

ROUND 2Alright, for round 2 I want a song that makes me feel alone! As in like alone in then world, nobody understands you, nobody loves you depressing kind of feel. I want to feel isolated! This is quite a specific round so I will be quite lenient - obviously a song that makes you feel a certain way may not effect me in the same way.
