how do YOU stay motivated and positive?
« on: April 30, 2012, 07:28:41 AM »
well, how do you?

For me, I've started by putting this video --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOvjBfzms1c&feature=related as my homepage. I feel guilty if I close out of it, always watch it first thing in the morning (about a week now). Been feeling guilty playing video games when I could be doing something else. It's motivating me to do work, work out, and just try to improve my situation (even if I was rollin' in cash, there are always ways to improve).

I've also put the mp3 onto my iPhone. Looking for other ways to stay motivated and curious what you guys do

edit: here is a synopsis of the video. striking it out so no spoilers i guess. Basically, its a story of how a guy goes to a success guru, asks for help. the kid gets brought to a beach and the guru makes him come out into the water. once he gets out deep enough, the guru submerges him until the kid is about to pass out. the guru then says that you can't be successful until you want success as much as you want to breathe. he goes on saying that you can't be successful, truly successful, until you are willing sacrifice sleep/eating (obviously just two examples) etc. and just says that you need to want success as much as you want to breathe.

I don't. I find that when it gets to the point where I'm getting hysterical about something that I need to start revising/getting motivated.

Take a quick peek at my three boys peacefully sleeping...right before I hit the sack....walk back in to my bedroom and lay down next to the greatest woman in the world. Makes me realize how fortunate I am and how there are 4 people in this world who completely trust me and count on me to 'be the best Dad and Husband I can be'. It could be frightening but I don't look at it like that. I feel blessed and go out each day to give thanks for that blessing the best way I know how....

I don't know if I can really put into words how I stay motivated and positive.

For me it's sort of two different things. For motivation part I know that there are certain goals in life that I want to achieve while I'm alive, regret to me is one of the worst feelings I can have and it's also a great driving force. The feeling of accomplishing a goal is a great motivator too.

I wasn't always so motivated tho, it took a long time to change, 10 years ago I didn't care about much or do much except be lazy.

As for staying positive that's just ingrained in my thought process. I can't help but stay positive, I get let down a ton but it just seems to roll back. I would think it's just coping mechanism I developed when I was growing up because I didn't have the best of childhoods.

I stay motivated by breaking down my task into just what I need to do right now today, so the task is manageable and easier to motivate myself. Getting the smaller task done feels good and keeps me motivated to continue for the next step.

I stay positive by being an optimist. When things go wrong (which has happened a lot for me lately), I just find the positive spin on it, and focus on that instead of focusing on the bad that I can't fix and end up dwelling on the past. Just try to think that it happened that way for a reason.

I just always remember that there are roughly 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms in my body. Each one of which was cooked in the center of a star and released into space upon its death. I can have atoms in my right hand that came from a different star than the atoms in my left hand. The sheer probability of me coming into existence was so small, I can't help but love and appreciate life regardless of what it throws at me. We are all connected.... to each other biologically, to the Earth chemically, and to the rest of the cosmos atomically. I think that's kind of cool... That makes me smile.

Its hard for me I'm a huge pessimist. Seeing my friends on the weekends, music, exercise, gotta  have laughter too.

I don't think these things necessarily keep me motivated or positive but allow my mind to not think about the reality and bullshit of life. Don't know if they make sense at all.

Yeah, add me to the list. Though I'm not all pessimist. When I'm having fun I know it and it happens often. It's just after the fun that I feel a natural downer, in the sense that everything afterward isn't as good. 'The good times never seem to last'.

Until February 2nd, all I really was, was a pessimist. It took a lot for me to be happy and enjoy life.

What did it for me was finally moving from my home of 23 years, where I had been all my life. I didn't realize how depressed, pessimistic, and sometimes near suicidal I was (long story won't bore anyone with). But it took me the idea of spreading my wings and flying away to try to make something of myself to be motivated and enjoy life for what it is. I have a radio show, I'm interviewing bands like Meshuggah, Iced Earth, Kittie, Goatwhore Cannibal Corpse, Between the Buried and Me, and one huge band I'm still working on *Code phrase, SLAPPA DA BASS*. I might be able to make this into a full fledged career with the way it's going.

Living at home brought out the worst of me and I didn't realize it until after I left.

So the tl/dr part of this:

What makes me motivated and positive? I'm making my own life now

This too, also I have no idea what I want to do with my life.  I'm in a Video Game Major right now, and while I love spriting and would love to learn 3d modelling, you also have to be proficient in programming in the program, and I'm terrible at it and it makes me miserable, so I'm trying to change majors to Audio Production, but I don't know, I just don't know.

Motivated: Live in the moment. It helps to be spontaneous and kinky. One day, I called up my girlfriend and asked if she wanted to go somewhere nice. Naturally she said yes, so I told her I have a surprise when I come over. When I arrived, I was dressed to the nines, and she was thoroughly impressed. It brought a smile to her face, and made me happy too.

Optimistic: Just be myself. Go to a bar with me sometime. I'm a big deal, haha.

I had a really long season of my life where I really pitied myself.

I got really tired of that.  It doesn't take much now to motivate me out of it because that stuff sucked, and I was there long enough to know what it's like when I drift back there.

I'm getting married in 25 days.  I have my health.  I have a job.  I've worked very hard to earn my money and to get my undergrad.  Those past accomplishments propel me to accomplish new things.

Well, I'm a musicology student. I wouldn't say I'm a bad student, but I definitely am not the best. Also, given the subject, there's very little job prospect for me later in life. Add to that the fact that I actually prefer making music than studying music by miles, I really have no clue what the hell I'm doing or supposed to do. In a way I think I need my university degree but on the other hand I don't really like what I'm doing and therefore I'm slacking and not giving my full 100%.
