If you live in the south, you know fried chicken is about as tasty as those suckers get.

I get it, grilled is healthier...but you know Paula Dean serves at her restaurant?  FRIED MOTHERFUCKIN' CHICKEN.  Not grilled.

Grilled in sandwiches (unless it's spicy chicken sandwiches).  Fried, otherwise.  What can I say?  I'm an American, I like pizza, cheeseburgers, and fried chicken.

They both have their ups and downs, but a very good piece of fried chicken wins out any day.

This

Fast food chicken is an abomination.
Chik fil a would like to have a word with you.

And this.  Chick Fil-A has a ridiculously good grilled chicken sandwich.  I also like Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich (breaded).  As far as actual chicken nothing will ever touch KFC Original Recipe chicken.

Original Recipe has always been will ever shall be the best chicken known to man.

Unfortunately:

Have to eat grilled these days.

I liked it before, and have never liked Extra Crispy, so KGC is the way.  For now.

Might have something to do with her diagnosis of type-2 diabetes...

And imo, the fact that she hid this from her viewers while hawking the very recipes that helped lead to this is a bit wrong. And it's also pretty hypocritical that she's a spokesperson for a diabetic medication...

I like frying just long enough to get the breading crunchy, then I baked it off.

This.

As for grilled vs. crispy, it all depends.  Both are definitely great flavors, but I think you can do more stuff with grilled chicken, so I gave that the edge.  Plus, its healthier, and badly-made grilled chicken doesn't make your insides curdle and lead to gasiness, or leave the taste of bad oil in your mouth.  Still, nothing like well-made, crispy fried chicken.  mmmmm

By "fried chicken" he means "breaded and deep fried in boiling oil."

And breading and frying the stuff isn't all that difficult. The main idea is to mix up eggs, then place the piece into that wash and get it coated then put it in a thing of flour or bread crumbs (they'll stick to the egg). And then you cook it in oil.

And if you're looking for a recipe, it's no surprise that the first one that came up on a google search was Paula Deen's totally delicious-sounding (and horrible for you) recipe here.

I actually never use eggs in my fried chicken.  Let it sit in seasoned buttermilk for a few hours, shake the excess off, then dredge it in lonestars secret seasoned flour, and fry.  When I was coming up with my seasoning, the first thing I did was google eleven herbs and spices, gave me the one key trick for awesome fried chicken.

Fried refers to the cooking method (namely that you fry the stuff).
Crispy refers to the consistency (that the outside has a crisp feeling).

But if you were go to the south and ask for "Fried Chicken" you'd rarely if ever be given something that wasn't deep-fried with a crispy flour outside, even if you can fry chicken without the breading.

When I was coming up with my seasoning, the first thing I did was google eleven herbs and spices, gave me the one key trick for awesome fried chicken.
I saw a thing where some company tried making DIY versions of recipes you got at chain restaurants and after analyzing KFC original recipe they came up with a version of the eleven herbs and spices, which apparently tasted just like the real thing but had nowhere near eleven ingredients. lol

This, a thigh with lots of big fat chuncks of unidentifiable lumps hanging off of it and you hesitate if you should eat that part or not and then you do and the warm grease runs down your chin......

Original Recipe thighs, baby!  Food of the gods right there.

I went on a week-long canoe trip to the Boundary Waters, totally roughing it, everything we ate and used was brought in and carried out.  When we got back to civilization, we were talking about what our first "real" meal is going to be.  A nice steak?  Lobster or some other tasty seafood?  Not me.  Kentucky Fried Chicken three-piece meal, all dark, all thighs.  Food of the gods.

Being a McDonalds customer, I actually kinda figured that, I was just busting your massive steel balls.  The term fried has been dropped from most chain restaurants anyways.

I'd rather fry my chicken fresh in a tiny bit of olive oil and know how much salt I'm adding than buy something ready cooked which is probably full of shit. Just sayin'
