To the people living in Canada or the US...
« on: April 18, 2012, 03:32:12 PM »
Feel free to read this thread but several have stepped up already and are willing to help me! :)

Hey guys! I have a favor to ask you.

I'll cut to the point. As you may or may not know, record store day is this saturday april 21st. Now Sigur Rós are releasing a special edition of a previous release on vinyl and it will only be availaible in the US and in Canada on record store day and only in selected stores. Here's the website: https://www.recordstoreday.com/

You can probably guess what I'm getting at... It would be awesome if you could check the site to see if there is a store nearby you and perhaps email them or go by before Saturday to ask if they will actually sell the Sigur Rós record. And if they do, I would be so forever grateful if you could swing by and pick it up on Saturday and mail it to me. I will of course pay for everything including postage and some extra.

I know this is kind of maybe a lot to ask but it would really mean a lot to me, and I would owe you forever. Please let me know if you are feeling up to it and found a store nearby that will sell it on Saturday.

Thanks so much in advance guys, I really hope someone could take the time to do this.
Ruben

I'll do it if I find a record store Ruben, let me do some research.

I have some participating stores near me every year, but I have an autism walk and a benefit concert for an injured friend that day, so I likely won't be able to go shopping, sorry.

Edit: And Record Store Day usually is pretty fucking awesome.

Yeah please don't change your schedule or anything, only do this if you have the time available. Thanks for even considering though.

If no one else can help, I can ask an acquaintance in another state that owns a record store if he's getting it and if he would be able to mail it to you.  I know he participates in National Record Store Day from his Facebook.  I live nowhere near a record store, let alone an independent one, so that would probably be the best I could do.

How well acquainted are you? I understand you can't just ask someone you've met a couple of years ago to do something like that for you, since changes are he's gotten a lot of questions about the RSD records and it would be pretty unfair to the other people out there. But if you think he might do something like this for you, then it would be absolutely amazing if you could ask.

I found two stores participating and they're both on equal distance from me (30 minute drive approx)
I just called one of them and the guy said they don't know anything about the releases until they "receive the boxes" the same day. And he said if I want something I should get early cause they have long lines that "go to the end of the street". I'm not seeing the angle that makes this event so appealing to the point where they have long lines, I thought it was a help small businesses kinda thing.
I tried calling the other store but the number their website provides is out of service so I emailed them.
Anyway I'm willing to drive over there Saturday and just check but I dunno if I should pick one of the two stores randomly or wait and call on Saturday to find out. Tell me what you think.

Thanks so much for calling for me!!
Weird that they haven't "received the boxes" yet. There's a different Sigur Rós LP sold for Record Store Day over here in Europe and every store I've emailed this week knew whether they would have the record or not. I've also heard from a few people in the US that lines can indeed get long. The reason is that a few hundred bands are putting out super deluxe special editions only available in select stores on record store day. 30 minutes is not that long but that means you'll be driving for an hour total if you include getting back. So I really wouldn't want you going all the way out there and then finding out that they don't have any. I'd just wait for the other store to reply to your email (and if they don't, so be it). But thanks so much for doing what you did already.

Which release is it that Sigur Rós are putting out? I've missed it completely. :o

Also, I'm totally psyched about this day since I missed it last year.

There are several stores in my area participating. If I can get a second copy (I want one too) I will get one.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

A re-release of Hvarf/Heim on heavyweight coloured vinyl. In Europe it's Ekki Muk + an unreleased song (not on the new album).

So guys: I've been PMing with wolfandwolfandwolf and he feels confident that he is able to pick one up, as there are about a dozens participating stores in his area and he's going to get one for himself as well. That means that you really don't have to drive around for an hour to get one for me metty, but thanks for stepping up, that was really amazing. :) If you ever need anything.. :)

@wolf: again, thanks so much. Maybe DTVT's friend wants to send one out to me so you won't have to go to a second store or something if that's the case. Check this thread but I will PM you if anything's up with that.

Also, thanks again for everyone who tried to help, this really is an amazing community and I am so glad that I am a part of it. I love you guys :hearts:

To be honest I've never had any maple syrup (it's not a popular item here in Europe) so I don't know if I'd want it. But thanks for the offer though. :D

Is there a site to see in more detail which artists are releasing something, and what they are releasing? I looked up the official "record store day"-site, but didn't find anything. The wikipedia site lists a few of the more known artists, but it also says "and over 100 more", and it doesn't say what they are releasing. Just curious. :P

I got a response, probably not the one you wanted though.  If he has one at the end of the day he'd be willing to sell it to me via paypal for pick-up.  Problem is I won't be up in that area until mid-May at the earliest.  So, if no one comes through for you and you don't mind waiting until I travel, I might be able to get you one.
