What... no Russ Martin?  At times, I'll listen to him.  But after 30-some odd years, I still feel the need to listen to a bit of Bo and Jim in the mornings.

"Turd on the Turnpike".  I like that.  I still call it JerryWorld, like everyone else.  Though, if he DOES get corporate sponsorship, he owes the city of Arlington an ASSLOAD of money!!

As a rule I hate talk radio, and morning drive-time in particular.  I generally listen to WRR in the mornings, but they reworked their schedule and I can't stand Barry Samsula.  Now it's mostly KNTU or CD's.

I talked to Russ Martin a couple of times and he's actually a pretty bright guy.  He's also a real asshole.  That article the Observer did on him a few years ago made him out to be a real monster; a label I'm sure he'd not deny.

I just got an email from Verizon Theater AllAccess or somesuch, it says this about Dream Theater tickets (in addition to the 10 am Friday time):

PRESALE

Good to know.  Thanks for the heads up.  I'm curious to see if it'll be worth a damn.  All of my experience with presales suggests good seats, but never great ones.

By the way, the AXS ticket site works a bit differently than Ticketmaster (or any other outlet, for that matter).  A few minutes before the onsale time, it'll kick you into a virtual waiting room.  Rather than hitting refresh every 10 seconds, as per TM SOP, you just wait until they decide it's your turn and then the purchase screen will automatically load.  I have no idea how the back end works, so I don't know if it's first come/first serve from the waiting room, or if it's random.  Based on previous experience, my theory is that it's random, though.  I also don't know how many people at once are allowed to the purchase screen.

What I do know is that we've gotten hosed both times we had to deal with the silly thing.  Strangely, Ticketmaster is actually the best of the ticketing options right now.  Go figure.

As expected the presale was a total waste of time.  Section 103 (front/center) was greyed out as soon as they went on sale.  The best I saw were 10th row way off to the left side, which I passed on, and then it was nothing but 200 level seating.  Since I'm pretty confident that they didn't sell 750 seats in the first 3 minutes, this is another example of few seats being released with the good ones held back.

I agree.  I got in the "waiting room" at about 9:30 and was granted access right at 10:00.  I got 1st row, section 203.  So, all those section 100's are for VIPs only.  I got pretty good seats but I'm not crazy about the process.

I'm still pulling tickets on 2 computers looking to gain some insight into the process.  It's pulling from random blocks of seats, but those blocks will jump around.  I'm occasionally seeing the front/side sections pop up, but nothing close enough for me to pull the trigger.

Interestingly, 102 now appears to be sold out.  I never a single ticket available in there, but apparently there were some available which sold.

That's why I've changed my policy on ticket buying to waiting until the last minute.  I'm holding out for some of those 103 seats that they didn't bother selling right now.  They'll start popping up in the days before the show.  It's still worth playing around with the regular process, since I have free time at work, and I'll certainly do the same thing tomorrow at 9:55, but the lieklihood is that the great seats won't be available until well into July.

Rows Q and R have been popping up off and on all day.  104/Q seems to be what they consider the best available at the moment, and were still available not too long ago.  I'm just being greedy and holding out for awesome, rather than good.

Thanks to the marvels of random ticketing, I pulled 5th row this morning and jumped on them.  The lesson here is to never assume that the presale seats are the good ones.

Nice score! But you had a presale code?
I just received email from the venue telling me the tickets went on sale.

James007 was kind enough to post the Dallas code about 15 posts up.  Didn't really matter though.  Never saw any seats half this good during the presale.

Good deal, gets me optimistic for Austin.
Hopefully DT Austin will be the last concert event I purchase tickets to this year cause the budget is collapsing like it's 2008  ::)
Except Fair to Midland in July, their tickets are 15$ though.

I've only been there a couple of times.  Since I'm bringing my 13 year old son, do you think section 203, row AAA are decent seats?

Those are not bad seats.  The show last fall was not that loud.  I was really impressed with the acoustics and the sound level at that place.

Since they're not selling the balcony, back floor section, or seats in the edge sections, there really aren't any bad seats.  They're only selling about half the venue, so they've excluded anything that wouldn't be good.

It's also possible that you might be able to teach the lad the fine art of scheming 15 rows forward into some unused seats.     :metal

Barto, that goes without saying!!

I know when I told Duncan about the tix, he got VERY excited.  But that boy had BETTER do his chores or I'll have to find someone else to take!

Well, I knew Duncan wasn't going to do his chores without me riding his ass.  So I altered the deal.  He's in Boy Scouts, and I told him that if he earned his next rank at Scout Camp (we just got back Saturday), he could attend the show with me.  Needless to say, I am now the proud father of a new Star Scout.  At this rate, he should easily have his Eagle rank by the time he's 16.

He's very excited about the show!!

I'd also love to meet any and all who are attending the show from the forum!  'Cuz I'm most definitely gonna be there, now that the boy has done what he promised!

It changed tonight, they played Another Day and Pull Me Under before Metropolis in celebration of I&W anniversary, I'm guessing they're gonna do that for the next couple of shows as well.
