Frank Darabont's L.A. Noir (Renamed: Mob City)
« on: April 12, 2012, 03:06:46 AM »
Frank Darabont is creating a L.A. Noir T.V adaptation, I found out about it around a month ago but was too lazy to start this thread.
I'm a big fan of the Film Noir genre, being the 30's/40's movie buff that I am but also I love the cigarette smoking detective in the trench coat who can't stop making cheesy remarks and being cynical. I love the rainy wet streets in black and white. I just love these settings.
L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City is a very interesting book that came out a couple years back and inspired an epic game by same name, through which I found out about the book actually.
I was excited when I heard about the show and double as excited when I read Frank Darabont was the man at the helm because I've got a sweet taste of what that guy can do when given full creative control over his projects, sampled in first season of The Walking Dead.
First cast member to be known was Neal Mcdonough, who I only know from Band of Brothers, okay actor.
But things just got even better for me when my favorite actor from The Walking Dead Jon Bernthal announced he joined the cast as well and I found that out right after the season finale of The Walking Dead and I was just saying I'm going to miss him  :lol. L.A Noir keeps looking better for me!
This project probably won't see the light of day anytime soon but if anyone comes across news about it please share. I'll do the same if anyone is interested. I have really high expectations for this.

That definitely sounds like a show that'll be right up my alley. Neal McDonough just finished up a killer season long run on Justified, so I look forward to seeing him in this kind of show.

I've never loved Darabont's work, and The Walking Dead has made me question whether his style is suited to television.

Quote
JH: I'm guessing you've gotten into costume and seen the sets. How's it being in the world of the 1940s?

Jon Bernthal: It's really cool. I was very much a virgin to this whole genre, the noir, the whole period. It got to be spoon fed to me by Frank. Watching all the old movies has been such a cool experience and listening to music. Jazz music in LA at that time was so cool. The clothes are great and I've been reading a lot of Raymond Chandler and just immersing myself into the period as much as I can. It's such an interesting time. I think LA at that time was really interesting. It was kind of like the Wild West out there with the glamorous and sexy shine to it. I'm really excited to dive in. You've got to know that with Frank at the helm things just look great. There's no detail that is ignored in this thing from the cars to the clothes.
Full Interview

I'd pay anything to be a coffee boy on that set. This is where I want to live  :lol

Frank Darabont should adapt The Tommyknockers. I bet he could make a kickass adaptation of that.

Could be interesting.  Not so sure on Jon Bernthal playing a noir detective.

Is this based on the game?

EDIT: Nevermind lol

The show's name had to be changed cause someone at Rockstar was being a douchebag about the name L.A Noir even though the game spells noir with an E at the end and the show would have probably renewed some interest in the 4 year old epic game, not that the game needs it but it would have been probably some new fans.
Anyway it got renamed to Lost Angels and somebody quickly realized that sounds awful and renamed it to Mob City, nowhere as cool as the original title but would do.
We finally have an air date for the pilot, Dec. 4, I dunno how I maintained interest in this since February 2012 but it better come out good :lol

Jon Bernthal played Al Capone in the Night at the Museum sequel. He could be the next Carl Winslow or Gary Chalk (voice actor turned cop/police captain in every show ever).

I'll check it out also. Only thing is....I have no cable at the moment so I'm hoping they'll stream it on their website or that it'll be free online somewhere. Every review I've read says its fantastic.

This show is incredible.  :metal  I'm really liking it....non stop movement of the story and it's told in such a great fashion. The actors/actresses are spot on....just really well done and Darabont has done such a good job at developing these characters. Every one of them...from the prominent to the least important, all are believable as who they are and the actors/actresses who are playing them do a fantastic job doing so.

If you haven't watched....do it.
