Not the most well known stuff out there, but there is plenty of good albums and now is the time to try some new bands cheap.

Elite

For those wanting to check out something cool, take a look at Sky Architect's 'Excavations of the Mind'. For just $4,00 that's a steal.
Thanks for the link!

Nick

Mason, of all you've bought from them, what would be your highest recommendations, considering I already have all the Henning stuff?

jingle.boy

Nick... feel free to delete my dup thread.

Added the following to my cart so far:

Planet P Project - 1931: Go Out Dancing Part 1
Henning Pauly - Credit Where Credit is Due
Dec Burke - Destroy All Monsters
Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: Beyond The Horizon (CD)
Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: A Line in The Sand (CD)
Vonassi - The Battle of Ego

So I just checked, and, uh, you are one of the two who haven't sent.

I don't think I've heard of any of these bands (I may know some of the musicians involved in these projects, but I haven't heard of any of the projects themselves). Any recommendations? What's essential here?

rogerdil

Might have considered Votum, The Black Noodle Project and Unitopia, but didn't have the albums I was looking for.

Dr. DTVT

So I don't make end up having to do this multiple times, here is IN ORDER, what I would recommend (feel free to skip the ones you already have Nick):

Frameshift - Unweaving the Rainbow (has JLB)
Henning Pauly - Babysteps (has JLB)
Amaran's Plight - A Voice in the Light
Vonassi - The Battle of Ego
Moon Safari - Blomljud
Frameshift - An Absense of Empathy
Chain - Chain.exe
Odin's Court - Deathanity
Prymary - The Enemy Inside
Dec Burke - Destroy All Monsters
Prymary - The Tragedy of Innocence
Odin's Court - Human Life In Motion
Henning Pauly - Credit Where Credit is Due
Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: Beyond the Horizon (some JLB)
Henning Pauly - 13 Days
Roswell Six - The other one
Soul Secret - Flowing Portraits

That should be more than enough to keep people busy.  I actually did leave some stuff off, but I'm sure most of you can live without Daedalus and Withoutending.

Dr. DTVT

I want to add that in addition to any order you make, pick an album you never heard of that sounds interesting.  I found Vonassi doing that and I'm extremely happy with it.  Then report back and tell us how it is.  If it is a gem, you're sharing it will support a band you would like to see continue.  If its a dud, you are only out the price of a beer at a bar.

well, most people are reluctant to take a flyer on anything, if they can't find it to d/l to try they won't bother.  I'm taking four this time.  Babysteps, j.b, Babysteps.  Pun intended.

I forget which members asked me to keep an eye out for this, but I'll post it for all.

Never heard anything by Shadow Circus, but I've seen good reviews, and Factory of Dreams just sounded promising...no idea why I bought all 3 but what the hell, the price is right.  Lots of other good stuff that I purchased in the past as well.

Shadow Circus is great!  They're the brain-child of a very, very good friend of mine, John Fontana, who writes all of the music.  John *almost* ended up playing keyboards with The ANABASIS, but some scheduling conflicts kinda threw a monkey wrench into that idea.  Of course, since we ended up with Ryo Okumoto it worked out OK for us, but John's an excellent player on keys and guitar.  Shadow Circus is what I'd call "classic prog."  Keyboard driven, cinematic, epic stuff.  Lots of mellotrons, moogs, etc......but also pretty rocking in places as well.  I prefer their second album, but both albums are worth having.

Nick

Chain - Reconstruct    $2.00    1    $2.00
Vonassi - The Battle of Ego    $3.00    1    $3.00
Echoes - Nature | Existence    $4.00    1    $4.00
arK - Wild Untamed Imaginings    $5.00    1    $5.00
Prymary - The Enemy Inside    $3.00    1    $3.00
Soul Secret - Flowing Portraits    $3.00    1    $3.00
Manning - A Matter of Life and Death    $3.00    1    $3.00
Items          $23.00
Shipping          $2.89
Handling          $2.50
Total          $28.39

Dr. DTVT

Nick, do you already have Moon Safari?

You'll have to tell me what you think about Echoes and Manning.

Nick

No, but the one full album they had was more expensive and so I went without for now. I'll let you know what I think of all of it.

Pols Voice

I got some cool stuff when they had a sale last year. The Third Ending is especially good.

The Letter M

GAH! These sales need to stop happening!!! Luckily I got my tax returns this week, so I don't feel SOOO bad (plus I got paid today)...here's what I nabbed:

Ghost Circus - Across The Line                                                              $4.00
Roswell Six - Terra Incognita: Beyond The Horizon (CD)                      $5.00
Frameshift - Unweaving the Rainbow (Limited Autographed Edition) $5.00
Moon Safari - Lover's End                                                              $7.00
Moon Safari - A Doorway To Summer                                              $7.00
Moon Safari - Blomljud                                                                        $9.00

Not a bad deal, and after shipping and handling, only cost me $42.39, which averages to $7.06 per CD/album on average, a great deal by any means!

EDIT:  Oops!  I didn't see this thread and made a new one and I guess the mods just put my post here.  Anyway, if anyone's interested I recommend "Melotronical" by Factory of Dreams:  https://www.therecordlabel.net/progressive-rock/factory-of-dreams/melotronical  I have all three of their albums but their latest one is by far the strongest.

jingle.boy

Purchase made;

Prymary - The Enemy Inside
Prymary - The Tragedy Of Innocence
Odin's Court - Deathanity
Cryptic Vision - In A World

...for anyone that doesn't remember, Odin's Court was a member of these forums years ago.  Nice guy, I assume he's still in the band, anybody know?

I remember I ordered a cd from them and they just sent me both that they had at the time. :tup

I think this thread was for me (I wonder why I didn't get this email. I signed up.)

I'll need to check this out. (As if I need more to check out.)

The Letter M

So I placed my order 9 days ago and have received no further emails regarding my order, nothing about shipment or delivery... Has anyone received ANY confirmation of shipment for their orders yet? I was hoping to get this already or at very least, by midway next week.

-Marc.

Dr. DTVT

They tend to not send out emails when items get shipped, so don't worry.  It always takes longer than I would expect to get my orders from these guys, so don't panic.

Normally it doesn't take longer than people expect, only when you have these sorts of sales. If you read the main page when they do it they always state that because of the number of orders it will take an extra week or two to sort through and get everything out.

ytserush

It took forever to get my CDs the only time I've ordered but it was during a sale so I cut them some slack.

I'd rather support the little guy instead of Amazon anyway.

Dr. DTVT

I'll preface this by saying that I was probably one of the first people to order, but I got mine today so you should expect your's soon.

Madman Shepherd

Wish I would have seen this sooner.  Ive been curious about Rosewell Six

I ordered a day or two after you. *crosses fingers it will be there tomorrow when I get home*

Probably not though ... Customs and all.

Jealous!! >:(. Mine was not here when I got home.

Where do you live? They ship from CA, and I'm in MD, so I'm clear across the country and it took 16 days for my package to travel over 3000 miles, so hopefully you'll get yours in the new couple days!

Blomljud is the correct answer.

I started with their first one, listening in my car to and from band practice earlier, got through the first couple of tracks and I've gotta say - Why didn't get I get this band before?! It's all the uplifting prog I could ever have! It's pretty good stuff, very TFK-ish. Cannot wait to finish the first album and get into the other two.
