Satch
Gilmour
Knoffler (though I'm not a huge fan he's just so perfect sounding)
Steve Stevens
Rik Emmet
Colin James
Dave Wilcox (master of the slide)

Do you have a mount Rushmore in Canada that has 7 faces carved in stone?

yup
and

Frank Mahogany is on it too along with Kim Mitchell

I don't really think all that highly of Liefson.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

EVH
SRV
YJM
Iommi

I really wanted to put Rik Emmett on the fourth spot, but the first three were literally ground breaking, so I felt I needed to put another revolutionary up there.

I need to add SRV.  Saw him from the 13 row and he is truely one of a kind.

SRV was awesome, but he was somewhat one-dimensional, and I don't listen to the blues enough, for me to put him near the top of my list.

I think Jeff Beck is the best player ever, but I can't not have the four on my mountain that I picked.  Rik Emmett, Brian May, The Edge and Jimmy Page all get honorable mentions from me as well.

Some might laugh at me mentioning The Edge, but while he isn't a technical player at all, his style and sound is a big reason why U2, one of the most popular and one of my favorite bands ever, are so great, and that counts for a lot.

^^  Speaking of Jimmy Page and The Edge, if you've got those 2 on your list, you should check out this movie:

Jack Black Came off like a tool but I like his playing with The Raconteurs.

Kev.  Love the Edge.  Who realy sounds like him?  No one is the right answer.  He is very unique.

I think the edge is a fantastic sound creator but as a guitarist I think he is below average. I think it was in that movie that was just recommended that he shows that he actually plays very basic stuff but then he adds several different effects which is what you end up listening to.

The question then becomes: would you rather listen to a great technical player who couldn't write a good song to save his life or an average or even below average technical player who writes great songs based off of a sound and style he created?  If you prefer the latter, then U2 is a band you'll love.  If you prefer the former, have fun listening to Yngwie.

Great that you mentioned Yngwie cause I was going to tell you that I prefer listening to The Edge every single day than listening to super technical and boring stuff. My comment on him was not a bad one at all and I have listened U2 quite a lot  :)

If I had enough mountain left, Alex Lifeson.

Could be dozens of guitarists really but these are the one's who made me love the guitar in the first place.

I thought about Steve Howe, but carving his visage into rock 60 feet high has to be some kind of crime against decency (if not humanity).

ok so i have a totally mahoosive list of favorite guitar players but if i had to narrow it down to just four i would have
john martyn
steve vai
john petrucci
tie taybor

honerable mentions to
bert janch
dave murray and adrian smith
joe satriani
django reindheart
The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consonant and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese.

I hate to agree, since he's probably my no.1 favorite, but yes, God filled him up with talent and skill, and really had no room left for looks.
