TV show recommendations
« on: March 25, 2012, 05:50:05 AM »
I was just curious on what are some good shows you guys like/think I would like. I've watched and loved The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Friday Night Lights, The Office (UK) and Friends (yeah).
Shows that are still on which I like are House, How I Met Your Mother (not as good as the first seasons but oh well), South Park, New Girl and Game of Thrones.

So, any recommendations?

1. Deadwood
2. Breaking Bad
3. Mad Men

That should be your priority.

Deadwood looks pretty awesome, I've heard of the others but haven't checked them out either, thanks!

I'm currently watching Lost, which I really like. I think it's one of those shows that you either love or have very little interest in, it's a bit supernatural and has a bit of a "mystery"-feel to it.
If you're into comedy, I would recommend both Coupling (The British version) and Arrested Development, both are really good, The Big Bang Theory is another sitcom I enjoy, but it hasn't really been the same since season 3. (IMO)

Yeah I've seen Lost and it was okay, I only really liked the first season though. Just watched the rest to get to know what happened. I'll keep the others in mind as well but I've seen parts of The Big Bang Theory and I didn't really like it.

Lie To Me if you are interested in mimics and their real meanings. Pretty amazing show. I'd say Terra Nova but it's been cancelled.

Dexter. I know a lot of people will bash the most recent seasons, but it is still quite entertaining. It's a unique show, and Michael C. Hall does a great job. Also, I think it may be on Netflix instant play. At least, it was when I started watching it. I moved through the first two seasons in a matter of days.

Arrested development is brilliant, watch it!

The Shield

(That along with The Wire and The Sopranos makes my top 3 TV shows).

Seconding Arrested Development, possibly my favourite comedy (The Office (UK) is another one).

Plenty of others that are great but those are my top two recommendations.

Fringe if you love a long storyline that hasn't concluded yet.  Oh and if you love Science Fiction.

Louie!!!!

One of our generations greatest comedians takes on society; exposing it's humor and darkness.  One episode you might be left laughing your ass off; and another episode you might re-think why you do everything you do.  It is by far the smartest show on television since AD, and if not as humorous then definitely as touching.

Also, a couple of shows that were fantastic, but would be short watches as they got cancelled in their first seasons:

Freaks & Geeks
Firefly (although this did get a follow-up movie)
Photobucket sucks.

The first four or five seasons of The Office (US) are, contrary to what you may have heard, worth your time.

Weeds (First two seasons are world class, but took a major dive in quality)
Dexter (First two seasons are easily some of the best television you will ever watch, but there was also a bit of a drop off)
Arrested Development (Not a single weak moment in the entire series)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (I've heard it described as Seinfeld on crack)
Californication (great if you want something relentlessly raunchy)
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?
LOOK AT THIS AWESOME SHIT AHHHHHH

Unfortunately, given that you have already watched the wire, everything else you ever watch will be overshadowed.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
