I'm not super-knowledgeable about Germany's political system, but isn't the office of President largely ceremonial? 

If so, I can't imagine the arrival of a new president having much of an effect, positive or negative.

Ah, leave it to the British press to dig up completely unimportant details about German politicians :lol
He will be the president; which means his political involvement will be rather minimal. Whatever you hope his fear of God could inspire, don't hold your breath on it.

And of course, it wouldn't be British news without mentioning both Stasi and Nazis in one article. Good job!
