Hey, in my life time, having cable television meant "you have maybe 20 channels" rather than several hundred. Sometimes Solid Gold WAS the best thing on TV at the time  :lol

To be fair, it was usually my sister who watched it. Damn remote control hog.

Nothing wrong with this tune.  A nice blend of pop and rock.

Haha, so true.

Saga - Wind Him Up

Very nice little tune.  I had no recollection of the video, and after checking it out a minute ago on YT, it still doesn't look that familiar.  But I remember hearing the song quite a bit back in '82, so it must have gotten a lot of airplay; the video just didn't stick in my memory banks.  But really good song, one that has aged very well.

Saga is like mini-me for Asia.  They are some awesome melodic-prog.  Formed in the town that I grew up in.  Great music.

Wind Me Up got more radio airplay around here than the video did on MTV, but then, as I mentioned here a long time ago, the area of Virginia where I lived was one of the first regions Saga broke big in, so we were hardly the average barometer for Saga's success. Wind Me Up's an awesome song though, top five Saga track for me.

Europe - Open Your Heart

I absolutely loved this song when it came out on the Out of This World record, and was a bit saddened when it wasn't a hit here in the States, especially since other ballads, vastly inferior IMO, by other hair metal bands were big hits.  But shit happens, right?  This is still an enjoyable tune, although I don't call it one of my favorite songs ever anymore.  Europe was definitely a band whose actual popularity had no correlation to the amount of play they got on MTV.

Out of This World took a while to click for me.  I didn't pick it up until a few years later along with Prisoner's in Paradise - which completely overshadowed it.  You're right... it's as good as any other power ballad from the late 80s.

Steve Perry - Oh Sherrie

This is one of those songs that I was a big fan of at the time, but don't much care for anymore.  The video being kind of funny and entertaining, especially the pre-song intro, probably helped in me liking it so much back then, but that was then and this is now. :lol

I loved this song as a kid.  I had to look it up again recently (last year?). Still enjoy it, but the video sure is lulzy.

I liked the video because it made fun of videos.  I simple love song, but the director has this grand vision for the video and Perry can't even do it with a straight face.  The song itself is okay, nothing special, but fine for the time.

Perry had much better solo stuff, but this was an ok tune. "Sherrie" from the video wasn't anything special tho.

This song always seemed a bit too melodramatic in the verses.  The chorus is catchy though.  The intro/outro keyboards are so 80s! :)  Steve Perry's voice, you can't go wrong with, but I would much rather hear just about any Journey than this.

This is one AOR song that never really grabbed me.  Love Perry and all, but I didn't find anything in the melodies too catchy.

Wasn't that his actual girlfriend, wife, whatever at the time?  :lol

Correct.  Her name is Sherrie Swafford and she was Perry's girlfriend.  He wrote the song for her.

I thought she was pretty.  Maybe not supermodel quality or anything, but certainly not ugly.

When this song came out I thought it was alright...a little light-weight for my tastes. But, I'm sorry, Baseketball totally ruined any enjoyment I've ever had with Steve Perry's voice.  :lol

The Hooters - All You Zombies

Kind of a neat song that I never really gave much thought to, but always thought was pretty interesting.  I like the rhythmic drive of it, and while the song is fairly repetitive, the nature of the song makes that work in its favor.  It kind of gives it a hypnotic feel.  Good tune.

This is a cool song!  My wife is a big fan of The Hooters, so I ended up getting exposed to them more than I otherwise would have, and I ended up actually liking some of it.  I don't know; they just struck me as yet another band with a silly name and a gimmicky sound and getting MTV exposure.  But like a lot of things, you hear it enough, you start to appreciate it.

Good band.  Saw them life at a free radio show.  Like that tune a lot.

Little known fact,  Cyndi Lauper's first solo album with the big hits, the Hooters as a band played on that album backing her up in the studio and  Rob Hyman, the keyboard player in the Hooters co wrote "Time After Time" With Cyndi.

Elton John - I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That

This is one of those forgotten 80s songs - probably because John has had so many hits that this is just one that got lost in the mix over time - but it was a big hit at the time and MTV played the snot out of the video.  I liked it quite a bit in 1988, and while it doesn't come close to being one of 80s favorites nowadays, it is still a good tune.  Good pace, and some tasty piano work, as always.

Fedoras with one dangly earring is an under utilized fashion statement!  :)  Good song.
