Good Song. Phil Collins can be funny in his own special way.

Heh heh.

Ratt - Dance

I dug this song like crazy when it was out; loved the video, too, and always got a kick out of the hand "heating" into the camera.  Gotta love 80s cheese. :lol :lol

Not my favorite Ratt song.  I always thought the chorus should be:

Dance, Dance, Dance
Feel the heat of the rhythm
Feel the heat in my pants

Never had a problem with Illegal Alien-always thought it was a fun song and a funny video. But man, could you imagine a band doing this simple, fun song NOW? Someone would get bent out of shape over it, pundits on one side would berate it for being sympathetic to illegal immigration, people on the other side would find it insulting to people who had immigrated to this country. There would be online petitions to get the video banned. There would be a mild shitstorm over a silly, harmless song.

This country's forgotten how to be FUN.

Sad, but true.  Along those lines, Madonna's Like a Prayer is like the polar opposite.  Back in the late 80s, a video with that kind of religious imagery was considered very controversial, but nowadays it would barely be a blip on the controversy radar.

It should be banned for how crappy it is.

Can I start a petition to stop having Genesis songs in this thread?   :)

As an American, I'm offended that you take offense at people being offended by such a silly, harmless song.

(But the greater offense is still that a once-great prog band would release such a song.)

I am reminded of an old Bloom County comic where everyone was offended at everyone's offense and it ended with Opus the penguin coining the word "offensensitivity"  :lol

Bananarama - Cruel Summer

The beginning of this song definitely reminds me of a specific time of my life, but in general, the song is rather ho-hum; it simply doesn't do a lot for me. It's catchy and all, but it's just not a song I ever really go for when it is time for some 80s stuff.

The only Bananarama I remember is Venus.  Fortunately, I've stricken everything else from the memory banks.

Was it this one?  As I mentioned at the end of that round, I just fired up my handy desk-top time machine, and pretended that round never existed.

This was actually the only Bananarama video I remembered, having stricken everything else, especially Venus, from my own memory banks. The main reason why Venus was such an earworm! In fact, just typing this has gotten the chorus stuck in my head!

Prince - 1999

Fun song, one I remember being played to death on MTV back in '82. The video was cool, featuring Prince and all of his band members, several of which were prominently featured vocally in the song.  I think I knew even at the time that it would be a song that would stay popular for a long time, and it has.

Yeah, for the time, the video was very cool.  I liked the two-level stage, and the fact that the other singers sang their lead parts before you ever heard from Prince.

Prince was for me the perfect blend of pop and rock.  This was a great tune.  He had quite a few, and then blew his load with Purple Rain.

Yeah, I have never been that impressed by most of what I've heard from him post-1985 (a few songs notwithstanding), but Purple Rain is just a gem.  :tup :tup

1999 was a cool song, but even as a young metal kid I had a massive love for Little Red Corvette. That was one catchy as fuck song. Prince's talent in so many areas is so good its kind of scary.

The Waitresses - I Know What Boys Like

One of the most horribly cheesy videos ever made, and the song ain't much better, but it is oddly catchy.  It's like watching and listening to something so bad that you can't break away from it.  Watch the video and try to turn it off before it's over! It's so bad you can't help but keep watching! :lol :lol
