The only Sammy Hagar soundtrack song worth mentioning is Heavy Metal.  :metal

James Brown - Living in America

It is literally impossible for me to hear this song without the image of a dancing Apollo Creed appearing in my head. :rollin :rollin

James Brown had better songs, obviously, but LIA was tolerable enough.

Rocky IV, my favorite of the series.  "I must break you"!  I obviously don't care much for the song itself, but it does actually fit the scene of Creed-Drago well.

Irene Cara -  Flashdance... What a Feeling

Again, never seen the movie Flashdance, but I liked this song a lot when it was out.  I remember hearing it and not thinking a lot about it, and then I hear it again a few days later and was like, "Damn, that is an insanely catchy song!" Back then, I used to do my own version of America's Top 40 every week (although I did just top 20) and I liked this song so much that it debuted on my countdown at number 3. :lol  And was then number 1 for a few weeks, IIRC.  I think me doing that at such a young age is what made me the type of person who enjoys making music lists.

This song is, naturally, overshadowed as far as Flashdance is concerned by Maniac, the music video where it is totally, utterly impossible to realize that Jennifer Beals used a body double for the dance scenes.

Provided you close your eyes.  :lol

Vangelis - Chariots of Fire

A very nice instrumental, but having never seen the movie it was written for, whenever I hear this song, two other 80s movies come to mind: Vacation and Mr. Mom.

Rowan Atkinson had a wicked synth solo in that tune.

Glenn Frey - The Heat Is On

Okay song, but not one I ever liked that much.  And here is where I have to admit something that, for someone who group in the 80s, might be a bit shocking:

I've never seen Beverly Hills Cop.

And I will add that Glenn Frey sounds so suspiciously similar to Kenny Loggins on this tune that I think it actually is Kenny Loggins using a fake name.  I defy you to try to persuade me otherwise.

I am actually shocked that Kenny Loggins didn't do a song for either Beverly Hills Cop movie. I like to imagine that they went to him and he turned them down for some reason, so Glenn Frey and Bob Seger were second choices.  :lol

Eh, so you haven't seen it - big dealio.

I liked the song he did for Miami Vice (Smuggler's Blues) better than this one.

He also guest starred in the same episode that it was used in. I also liked his song You Belong To The City that was also used in a Miami Vice episode, the one where they go to New York.

(Wow I was just able to make two Miami Vice related posts in two days! :rollin)

Okay, back to regular 80s tunes...

The Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now

This was a favorite of mine back in 1984; I liked the contrast of the male and female vocals, and at the age of 10, I was easily entertained by the sliding frames in the video. ;)  Still a fun song, but not really an 80s favorite of mine anymore.

I didn't like Hold Me Now when it first came out, but it's not the worst song that was done in that time period.

Despite hanging out with a crew whose tastes in music ran from new wave to my love of metal and prog rock, whenever we were out partying, if this song came on, we invariably sang along with the chorus, very badly. I had the part of the ad libs over the last choruses, and let me tell you, I KILLED them. In the sense that my performance was dead on arrival.

If it helps, we usually were terribly drunk when this happened.  :rollin

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'N' Roll

This is one of those songs that seemingly everybody loves - put it on at a club or a bar and everyone will sing along and/or dance to it - but it was always kind of ho-hum for me.

Same here.  Yet another "rock anthem" with the added bonus of being sung by a girl who some people thought was hot.

Also one of the top 'go to' songs girls seem to love for karaoke.

While I agree that it's a classic rock anthem, what killed it for me was how weak sister the drums sounded. This is a song that needed the snare going WHAP, not sounding like the drummer was playing with uncooked spaghetti.  :lol

Yeah, the guitars sound fine, and her voice has some gravel to it, but the song just doesn't smack you in the face the way it should.  I've never really considered why before, but it's probably the weak drum sound.

Not bad, but there's better stuff of hers out there.
